Help! Accidently Cut Wires On Gardtec 370 581/582

I have accidently cut the wires, leading upstairs, whilst decorating. I have crudely reconnected the wires, but I cannot set the alarm again and there is a 'bb' message on the keypad's screen. Is it knackered or can I just get the wires re-joined together properly and it will be ok? I don't know who installed it as it was already in the house when we moved in, in June 06...

Oh right - are you sure? My plasterer did a similar thing in another room, and my father-in-law (who works in electronics) soldered the wires togehter and it was fine...
