I have a Optima G3 panel which I installed myself. I read in the manual about setting a Zone Delay of 800mS to reduce false alarms. How does this work. and is it neccessary with decent PIR's ?

No it shouldnt be necessary with decent pirs. The function in my experience is for when there is alot of "noise" on the cable runs. But this shouldnt be the case if the cables have been kept away from mains etc.
