hi please can anyone tell me wot this black box in my panel does? its a small black box that is wied to the 12v + and 12 v - and a wire that goes to the earth

It's an ACT 1313 spike suppressor. It was fitted to reduce/eliminate false alarms due to induced AC on the alarm cables, caused by alarm cables being run in close proximity to mains cables or vice versa at a later date...
