  2. I know all that, we do it in my line of work... Council maintenance

Our hourly rate for electricians is £35.75

Even if you used that rate of £35.75 that gives it as no more than 7hrs of labour assuming £250 labour

What's the issue here? It must be pretty hard for a ssaib registered alarm company to mess up such a basic alarm system in an empty premises...  I think his labour seems fine.

  3. Wire from fused spur to alarm panel, wire from panel to sounder, phone connection, position 2 wireless sensors, fit the door sensor, an hour to set it up.

There is no more than half a days work there. I've even seen people quoting in this forum half a day to install basic kits, leaving the other half for callbacks, alterations etc etc

  4. I'm not saying £250 is high or not justified, I'm just saying considering the kit is only £200 that leaves £250 labour to cover half a days work.

Just because the price is low (I deem it as fair) doesn't mean it reflects the quality of the install. There's not much to quality wise that can be different to fitting such a basic kit particularly if the company is ssaib registered and has to comply with the standards...

So how do you know he doesn't buy them from eBay? Or direct from the manufacturer etc? Even at £25 an hour it's no more than £200 if it took a whole 8hrs! Which it won't...

  5. The mrs will be subbing out the alterations, I think it is around £75

Dresses range from £1000 to £1800 at present (opening in September)

I'm not sure why you lot are deeming the price so cheap? The visonic powermax can be picked up for £210 on eBay, he no doubt gets them cheaper than this  so he's pretty much charging around £250 for labour.

It's never a days work to fit one of these kits, half a day surely for a pro which is his day to day job. So £250 for half a days work is quite high I think regardless of overheads etc.

If the kit is rubbish then I can ask him to quote for a wired system? Any recommendation?

As for the cctv be even told me where to buy it from to fit if I chose to diy it but he said I'll never be able to get his price due to the volume he buys at.

As an aside, the property is in first fix stage so I'd imagine it's a lot easier for him also. I reckon a days labour tops to install alarm and CCTV.

    What am I missing?

So the concensus is to avoid the alarm? How about the cctv? Seems pricey to me anyway...

  7. The local ssaib installer will install a visonic system with two wireless pirs, one door sensor, two fobs, text messaging service, and relevant certificates for £399 + VAT and £36 for the insurance certificate.

I am waiting for the insurance to advise if they do need to have it monitored, if so there is an additional cost.

His CCTV price was two cameras HD, a 19" monitor, 1tb hard drive for £700

  8. Okay I'm happy to go with wired, that's no issue. So which texecom all in one kit should I get?

The PA alarm was more of a deterrent, no requirement for police notification and certainly not looking to pay the fees associated with this.

The text option was mainly as we live 100m from the shop so could always nip down etc. Or look at the cameras online.

Are there any recommended kits for cctv? Again wired options?

  9. Afternoon

I'm looking to DIY install an alarm and CCTV system to a smallish (8m x 8m) bridal shop with one central entrance door, an open floor plan and a basement with a door not in use.

I'm pretty handy so I'd imagine a DIY kit would be fine. It appears TEXECOM seem to be well recommended here...

    A few questions :

    Alarm System

2 PIR's to shop window looking in?

    1 PIR to basement door?

    Door contact on entrance door

    External bell box

Option to send out texts if alarm goes off. Do I need Internet in the shop?

    Panic button under counter optional

    Remote key fob system preferable

Any recommended kit or suppliers? I can hard wire as the shop is undergoing renovations anyway but I think wireless seems the way to go.

    CCTV

I'd imagine 2 cameras will suffice given the area, placed in opposite corners of the shop. Maybe a third in the basement.

Ability  to record say the last 7 days activity and ability to watch on phone or over the Internet. Maybe a small screen to show activity in the shop

Again any kit recommendations? Is wireless okay?

    Thanks in advance
