  1. I just find people are slating the installer based solely on low price. His overheads may be a lot less than anyone else who can pass the savings on to the end user. Who knows? As for monitoring, any preferred option?
  2. The DVR & Cameras are Dahua, Monitor brand may vary depending on what the suppliers have in stock. Wired Alarm Option · 1x Castle Euro 46sm Panel with built in text alert facility · 1x Door Contact · 2x Pyronix PIR’s · 1x Panel Battery · 1x Pyronix Delta Bell Plus External Bell Box (Illuminated) · 2x Prox Tags · 1x SSAIB Certificate Cost £535.00 plus VAT Optional speech dialer (if you want the alarm to ring not text) additional £ 125.00 plus VAT Monitoring Options URN Cost £43.49 plus VAT (one off cost to South Wales Police Digi Monitoring (Phoneline only) £150.00 plus VAT per annum and includes 1 Service Visit Or Dual Com Monitoring (Phoneline & GSM) £300.00 plus VAT per annum and includes 2 Service Visits
  3. I've emailed for a quote for a wired system and also if the cameras are branded etc etc
  4. Certainly not for us, our hourly rate for tradesman is calculated each year. For our public buildings ie schools, community centres etc we charge £35.75 an hour labour and materials +10% And our department makes money at those rates. Cash in hand jobs outside of work, most sparks charge £15-25 an hour in my area.
  5. Companies also sell through eBay, anyway that was an example. I'm just saying he's obviously getting them cheap and if he's happy to give a 12mth warranty then any come backs is on him to sort. He's been around for years locally anyway http://www.vogalarms.com/ That's his site
  6. I know all that, we do it in my line of work... Council maintenance Our hourly rate for electricians is £35.75 Even if you used that rate of £35.75 that gives it as no more than 7hrs of labour assuming £250 labour What's the issue here? It must be pretty hard for a ssaib registered alarm company to mess up such a basic alarm system in an empty premises... I think his labour seems fine.
  7. Is that alarm system available to be wired? Or should I ask him to specify another altogether?
  8. Well I'm not going to pay extra if his price is actually reasonable I'm more concerned on the kit. And for peace of mind it might be worth me paying his labour knowing it's fitted right and approved. So what kit should I ask him to specify if this is rubbish?
  9. Wire from fused spur to alarm panel, wire from panel to sounder, phone connection, position 2 wireless sensors, fit the door sensor, an hour to set it up. There is no more than half a days work there. I've even seen people quoting in this forum half a day to install basic kits, leaving the other half for callbacks, alterations etc etc
  10. I'm not saying £250 is high or not justified, I'm just saying considering the kit is only £200 that leaves £250 labour to cover half a days work. Just because the price is low (I deem it as fair) doesn't mean it reflects the quality of the install. There's not much to quality wise that can be different to fitting such a basic kit particularly if the company is ssaib registered and has to comply with the standards... So how do you know he doesn't buy them from eBay? Or direct from the manufacturer etc? Even at £25 an hour it's no more than £200 if it took a whole 8hrs! Which it won't...
  11. The mrs will be subbing out the alterations, I think it is around £75 Dresses range from £1000 to £1800 at present (opening in September) I'm not sure why you lot are deeming the price so cheap? The visonic powermax can be picked up for £210 on eBay, he no doubt gets them cheaper than this so he's pretty much charging around £250 for labour. It's never a days work to fit one of these kits, half a day surely for a pro which is his day to day job. So £250 for half a days work is quite high I think regardless of overheads etc. If the kit is rubbish then I can ask him to quote for a wired system? Any recommendation? As for the cctv be even told me where to buy it from to fit if I chose to diy it but he said I'll never be able to get his price due to the volume he buys at. As an aside, the property is in first fix stage so I'd imagine it's a lot easier for him also. I reckon a days labour tops to install alarm and CCTV. What am I missing? Intruder Alarm · 1x Visonic Powermax Alarm System (Panel with built in Key Pad, Sounder & Dialler) · 1x Wireless Door Contact · 2x Wireless PIR Sensors · 1x Wireless External Bell Box · 2x Remote Key Fobs · 1x SSAIB Certificate Total Cost £380.00 plus VAT – fully installed with a 12 month warranty CCTV · 1x 19” Security Monitor · 1x Dahua 1TB 1080P HD DVR with USB Back Up & Networked for Remote Viewing · 2x 2MP 1080P HD Dome Camera with Night Vision · 1x Power Supply · CCTV Warning Signage Total Cost £735.00 plus VAT - £1800
  12. Intruder Alarm · 1x Visonic Powermax Alarm System (Panel with built in Key Pad, Sounder & Dialler) · 1x Wireless Door Contact · 2x Wireless PIR Sensors · 1x Wireless External Bell Box · 2x Remote Key Fobs · 1x SSAIB Certificate Total Cost £380.00 plus VAT – fully installed with a 12 month warranty CCTV · 1x 19” Security Monitor · 1x Dahua 1TB 1080P HD DVR with USB Back Up & Networked for Remote Viewing · 2x 2MP 1080P HD Dome Camera with Night Vision · 1x Power Supply · CCTV Warning Signage Total Cost £735.00 plus VAT So the concensus is to avoid the alarm? How about the cctv? Seems pricey to me anyway...
  13. The local ssaib installer will install a visonic system with two wireless pirs, one door sensor, two fobs, text messaging service, and relevant certificates for £399 + VAT and £36 for the insurance certificate. I am waiting for the insurance to advise if they do need to have it monitored, if so there is an additional cost. His CCTV price was two cameras HD, a 19" monitor, 1tb hard drive for £700
