The ASC was founded as the professional organisation for independent security consultants. In representing and promoting their specific interests, the ASC aims:
- to maintain the highest professional and business standards amongst its members.
- to stay in the forefront of work on security methods, technology, applications, legislation and standards, and to share the knowledge and experience so gained amongst all its members.
- to ensure, by providing services of the highest quality, that Security Consultancy achieves full recognition, acceptance and respect.
The ASC has several membership grades: Full Members must be independent consultants. Associate Membership is by invitation only. Affiliates may be fledgling consultants or non-consultants who have a strong interest in security. In this way the ASC promotes networking between member consultants, end-users, the security industry and government.
