I have set chime on but the chime doesn't work when the doors are opened or closed. How can I switch the chime on?

Well, I don't know to be honest, I don't know too much about this stuff.

But I have the chime turned on so I am guessing it is something the installer has to do in order to get the chime to work?

Yes i`m afraid so, if the zones were not given that attribute they will not respond to your turning it on.
