Guest MarkP
I inherited a Gardtec 500 alarm system when I moved house (think it was installed by previous owner himself). It has worked fine until last night. When I went to set the alarm the LED display showed 'A' (mains/fuse failure) and the alarm could not be set. We've not had any power cut so I can only assume it is a fuse failure. In the early hours the external sounders started emitting a continuous tone (not the usual alarm tone) and have finally given up after 3 hours. I'm totally clueless as to how to fix this. Can anyone help with this or recommend an engineer in the Leeds area? Guest Sparks
Sounds like the supply to the panel failed, then the battery in the alarm panel has drained, setting the external sounder off, because it can't see the panel any more, so it assumes the wires have been cut, but this external sounder has a knackered battery, so it can't sound properly, this was finally totally drained 3 hours later, so it stopped! The problem could be down to a knackered battery in the alarm panel, causing the transformer to overheat (becuase it is trying to charge the battery all the time) Is the panel on now, or has to gone off totally? Guest MarkP
Hi, sorry for the delay in responding The panel is completely dead now as are all of the sensors across the house. Should I try opening the panel to replace the battery or should that be done by an engineer ?
