  1. Hi James, Many thanks. That is exactly the type of advice I needed. The inside track based on your own experience. I haven't heard of HKC but have just had a look at their UK web page. Their systems look like exactly what I need. I don't need anything too elaborate, just a good sound reliable system. I can see now why the Ring system didn't look too good ! I've managed to get some contact links from the HKC web site and will email my north eastern contact tomorrow morning. James, thanks again for your help and support, all the best for the future, Ed
  2. James, MrHappy and al-yeti, Many thanks for your help. Yes, I agree, It is clear that the DIY system are easy to install but are nowhere near as good as the wired offerings. I already have a cabled Menvier cabled system so all of the cables that I need are already in place to install a new wired system. The problem is, there are so many wired systems available and they all claim to be excellent ! Could any members make suggestions for a wired system ? I don't need a police or monitored system. Just a good quality 20 zone system that can handle a wireless link to a detached garage. I'd like to replace the blind panel, add 2 remote kepads, a single entry / exit sensor, 8 PIR's plus the wireless link to teh detached garage and 2 PIR's in the garage. Again, all advice gratefully received. I know that you guys are busy so just a manufacturers name would be useful. Many thanks in advance.
  3. Hi All, Many thanks for all of your replies. I think you are right. The old system has been in place for a long time and, like me, is getting a little long in the tooth. I'll do some more research and move to a new system, probably the Ring system as which magazine rates this one very highly in the UK. Once again, many thanks for all of your help, all the best, Ed
  4. Hi MrHappy, many thanks for replying. Are you saying that the blind panel and the 2 keypads all need to be replaced (i.e. install a new complete system) ? Thanks in advance Ed
  5. I have just found this forum and, having joined, wanted to send greetings from Yorkshire in the UK. I have a Menvier TS700 which, whilst running well, has developed a display fault with the LED readout on one of our two remote keypads. I installed the system myself over 22 years ago. In those days (2002), the Menvier system was seen as almost an industry standard. With the help of a friendly local alarm component supplier, I purchased the parts that I needed and carefully installed the system and it has worked perfectly since then. I managed to source a used replacement TS700 remote keypad but, when I swapped them over, I got a busy display on the read out. That suggests that the replacement panel may not be compatible. Can anyone offer any advice ? Failing that, I think the best way forward would be to replace the system with a new up-to-date one. Unfortunately, my friendly alarm component supplier retired and the business closed over 10 years ago so, if anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be extremely grateful. Many thanks in advance for any time / advice that you can give. All the best, Ed
