  1. Hi all,

I've had intermittent RF Jam errors with the RF RIO on my Galaxy Dimension GD48, and as the zones covered are non-essential, I decided to remove the RF RIO entirely and revert to the wired sensors.

I physically disconnected the RF RIO from the main alarm panel, terminating the alarm bus properly.

I then exited Engineer Mode. The panel noted the missing RF RIO, then removed it and associated zones.

All seemed good for a while, (2 hrs?) but then I got RF Supervisory errors because (surprise, surprise) the panel wasn't receiving supervisory messages from the RF RIO. So then I changed RF Parameters/Supervision (option 60) to 'Silent Alarm', and the Supervisory alerts no longer occur.

But now it seems the lack of RF Rio is preventing the alarm setting properly, showing RF SUPER errors and failing to set, except in Engineer Mode.

I've looked at other parameters I could tweak which might solve this problem (e.g. setting 53 RF Stop Mode to 0, 'Disabled', which it already was).

Is there something else I need to do to remove the RF RIO fully? How do I tell the panel to stop looking for a RF RIO?

The lack of a RF RIO shouldn't be considered a fault, should it? Not every alarm system has one.

    All ideas welcome!

iirc log zones report all the time.

    Oops. Posted too soon.

You're right, log zones report all the time, but "This zone type has no operational function; it is designed to record the activation of a zone in both the set and unset state", so wouldn't that take them out of use for spotting intruders?

you can also make it print events in real time. I have used that in the past on custom software. But as you say no reverse commands. I'm not good enough to use the mircotech over serial option

That's exactly what I'm hoping to do.

Do you happen to know what config is required to see real time events? Ideally I'd be able to see all trigger events as they happen, even when the system is unset.

  4. Anyone had success getting the internal serial port to generate a message stream, either in Direct mode or Printer mode?

I'm trying to generate a stream of events for reading by a home automation system (no control of panel needed - trying to keep the systems as independent of possible), but I can't persuade the panel to generate any output I can read.

    Set up is:

    • Genuine FTDI RS232 cable connected to the internal serial port (TXD/RXD/CTS/RTS/0V) all connected
    • Serial port enabled in the panel; have tried both printer and direct mode
    • Serial port configured as 9600/N/8/1 (defaults)
    • Output using SIA Mode 3
    • Currently looking at output using a terminal emulator on a Macbook

If I have the panel in printer mode it reports printer offline, and if in direct mode, nothing at all happens.

None of the manuals seem to provide useful troubleshooting info, so would appreciate any guidance from anyone who's got this working!
