  1. As petrolhead has said the issue was alarm dialling out to 0844 number costing me ££. This isn't my fault and installer should rectify this.

Petrolhead, appreciate the info and I'll call my phone supplier on Monday and check if I've been charged to any premium rate numbers, do they usually begin with 0844?

When u say go with decent signalling, u mean with a decent monitoring company?

When I spoke to engineer he said if I'd like to have the panel reset so it doesn't call or msg out to anyone when alarm is triggered he can run me through it over the phone.. is it very likely I'll still be getting charged for a premium rate number since switching to SMS alert?

I havent read the full thread so I may have missed something here, but If the kit is faulty and not in warranty, it makes a difference, you own it not the installer so if it goes wrong its down to you to pay for it to be put right. If you purchase anything else and it was out of warranty you would pay for it to be repaired. Just because the co installed it and services does not mean that they should be looking after it free of charge forever. The same as you could drive out of your garage after having your car serviced and get a puncture, its not the garages fault.

    But its your alarm system

Not sure how this makes a difference? My system supplied and fitted by the company.. any issues have been hardware or monitoring issues which are down to the company to rectify imo

You got a singed jobsheet for his visit ?

No, don't think I do.. wasn't given anything and didn't sign anything myself!

  4. If I'm honest I think the engineer knows his boss is full of lies and is doing the right thing. It's his job to take care of engineering side of things but on the other hand if no contract has been signed and his boss is making things up on the spot to make an extra bit of ££ then it's morally corect to do what he did..

appreciate all the help, Thanks again..

Does this chap turn up for free ?

Yes he does but to be fair none of the problems have been caused by me..

  5. So a bit of an update,

after some research we found out my aunty didn't sign any contract let alone a 2 year one and this was totally made up by the company owner to keep us tied in.. agreed to stay within a 3 month cancellation period to keep things civil in case of any alarm issues in future. Agreed with the boss to have one of his engineers come out last Monday 3rd April to make sure monitoring was fixed etc..

On Monday morning i message the boss just to confirm engineer will defo be coming around 4-5pm and to be told yes.. as the boss has a tendency to lie I msg the engineer who is attending as I have his number and he agrees to come out at 12 pm. He arrives and calls montoring st to make sure we are still monitored etc, to be told the monitoring for my home is no longer active. My auntie did cancel the DD a few days earlier due to all the issues we had and because we had been offered 2 months free monitoring.. so either it was not being monitored down to this or for some other reason..

The engineer then tells me his boss is lying to me and there is NO 3 month cancellation period and I'm entitied to cancel whenever I want. He said Rather than my panel being connected to the 0844 number he can programme it so if alarm is set off it will send me a text msg to my mobile telling me where and when it's went off.. seemed like a good Idea so went ahead and done this. He set alarm off and panel sent me text msg. All good..

in the end an overall good result but to make matters worse the engineer told me his boss didn't even have me booked in for Monday and he only came cos I contacted him... joke to say the least!!

  6. So in short I need to get a new company out to remove all the old data and replace with their own data.. even if I stay unmonitored? Any ideas how much this could cost?

what if I cut the wire going from the alarm panel to the phoneline? Would alarm still active if an intruder entered the house?

Previously I was paying £16 per month, is that the going rate?

    Thanks again

  7. I've Cancelled the monitoring with the company and decided to go unmonitored till I find another company who come well recommended to avoid any further issues.

In the meantime how can I clear my keypad of the previous companies info and any monitoring station phone number to make sure my alarm doesn't call out to 0844 number costing me money?

  8. Personally I want them gone now but till I find a contract I don't want to cancel anything incase they start chasing me for money.

I'm even thinking about leaving wireless monitoring now unless I can get in writing off the company I won't be tied into another 2 year contract.

    Thanks again for the info..

  9. I have rough dates of what and when issues happened but rather than escalate I think I'll let them sort monitoring out via wireless, finish up the 2 year contract then cancel and move on to another company.. if any more issues arrise such as them trying to charge me unfairly I'll look into a formal complaint as u have mentioned.. does that sound fair??

  10. As far as I know I own the existing stuff. The lies I've been told are more frustrating that anything else and makes me feel sour towards the company ethics..

If my auntie ever finds the original contract I'll know more. She's also requested a duplicate copy. I'm questioning whether she even signed a 2 year contract

  11. The main thing I'd really like to know is, if I allow the company to change the monitoring from phoneline hard wired to wireless and i don't sign any contract can they tie me into another 2 year contract?

if I cancel monitoring, from what I've read and been told the panel remains and doesn't need changed.. so I can flat out refuse to pay the £150 They went to change panel?

Thanks again for the replies. Much appreciated

    Lol we all wrong

So they want you to replace a wireless panel with another wireless panel

They want to change the hardwired monitoring over to a wireless monitoring..

and if i cancel the monitoring they want to charge me £150 to change it over to another wall panel...

I suspect the alarm is dialling out just fine, but that the keyholder details are wrong. This could, of course, be either parties fault...

Key holders details are correct but they only call out sometimes and since the last panel change haven't called out just like when I first got the alarm installed

Cancelling DD - Suddenly not paying could be playing into their hands IF there is a contract in place (conversely keep on paying and you might be able to get a full refund if, as it seems, it has never worked, and you've kept telling them).

Upgrading - I highly suspect it's a tactic to tie you into an even longer contract

As for having to replace the panel to make it 'non communicating', this sounds like an utter lie, I can think of no such panel.

I've asked my auntie to have a look for the contract Already but she can't seem to find one and has asked the company to send her a copy of the one she signed..

in regards to the upgrade. He says it generally costs more per month compared to being hard wired into the phoneline but will do it for the same price we pay now, £15.99 per month. Not sure if this is true or not? I've reluctant, as u say could be a tactic to tie me into a longer contract.. but if I don't sing anything is this possible?

I agree regarding the panel. Called a few other alarm companies and they just laughed it off and said same as yourself.. this makes me want to get away from this company even more..

should i hold off them fitting the wireless connection till I get hold of a contract?

its probably an upgrade to gsm signalling. But there are other options to stop the 0844 number being used. but if there are 0844 numbers on your bill originating from the alarm then it appears it os working. It's not a sky telephone line is it?

The alarm company does call the keyholder sometimes but since the last panel change they haven't been calling and initially when i got the alarm fitted they weren't calling out...
