  1. Totally agree. Doesn't matter about the age. Too many customer supports are really just company support, to help sell. They don't give a toss about the customer in reality. Take JimL's post, the manufacturer answer, we don't want to support you, just sell you another. Support the old panels you cop-outs, after all, it is 'CUSTOMER' support. Having said that, pay peanuts for products you get monkey back up. We always pay more and have panels out there at that age. The support team we use are only too happy to help.
  2. One way can sleep just the same as a two way, the only difference is is that the panel wakes it up. A two way detector only knows if it has been activated because it is not fully asleep. So, not sure what that point is about. In the end it is down to quality and algorithms. The cheap two ways are based on early technology, whilst the newer (Which tend to be more expensive) are based on far more advanced and better thought out algorithms and state of the art electronics. If you want two way, pay a little more. If people don't want to pay it, put a good one way in.
  3. I have read so many posts saying two way is better than one way wireless. Well, this is true for the middle and upper end systems because they use a combination. Normal PIR's don't need two way wireless, only certain types really like video verification detectors etc need two way and top manufacturers have identified this. Purely 2 way systems are that way because the technology they are using is limited or they are not advanced enough to incorporate the two systems. Hence it tends to be the bigger companies that do. A good one way system is better than a cheap two way system. If you are only fitting a home installation with standard pir requirements, then a two way has no real-world advantage. As for claims by some companies that they arm quicker, that is just a load of BS. This is true for 1-3 detectors, but any more they take just as long. Its simple, pay peanuts for products, monkeys have made them. I would not want a monkey made system protecting my family. If you want a cheap panel, buy a good cheap panel, not a **** cheap panel disguised by BS specifications. Alarms are the same as any electrical good, buy a Tekinika tv from asda, its specs suggest it is on the same par as a Samsung all singing - all dancing, but we all know it isn't, so buy a cheaper, less specified Samsung instead. Rant over, Peace.....
  4. If you can wire, wire....If its a new build then defiantly wire, if it is at a stage to do it. Wireless is a compromise, a good one but one nonetheless. Loads of systems out there from the low end to the real alarms. I would look at whatever has the newest technology for the price. Low end go for pyronix, its ancient design and technology, but for the price what do you want. Higher end, well you have a lot of choice, Texecom, DSC, Jablotron, and the list goes on....Most are hybrid, so should fit all your needs....Go low end if you can run fast, play it safe otherwise. Costs a lot more in the long run.
  5. Bin it and buy a new one...The 1600 is ancient and a waste of time to work with. Not even Castle / Pyronix know how it works.....So much for support....
