  1. Hey Guys, Been busy but finally came round to providing an update. So my supplier has suggested a nice piece of kit http://sherlotronics.co.za/code-hopping-/41-wall-mount-transmitter.html to transmit the signal back to the control panel. What I still do not have an answer for is how to convert the relay signals from the alarm control panel into digital format for it to be managed and integrated into Milestone VMS. Are those Adams convertors the only viable option? , Jester
  2. @ Cubit, thanks. I did look at the Adams convertors but I was unsure if they were being used in the security field as all the brochures were about industrial automation etc. That might be something I can look into so long as the whole setup does not become cost prohibitive. @Wistle, thanks for the idea, but the problem is at the moment the client only wants a few IP cameras to provide surveillance on the highest priority assets. And these will only be installed close to two of the IR beam receivers. @Alarm Protection, thanks, contacted them already, hope to hear what solutions they can suggest.
  3. Hi Cubit, You are right. It might seem odd, but being in Africa our options are a little limited. I cannot just go down the street to my local distributor and ask for help, as there isn't one. I am hoping for real advice and this place seems like the best that I can find at the moment. I am not trying to avoid getting professional assistance, just I want to hear what you guys think first. I have contacted my regional distributor with the same question and am still awaiting a reply. , Jester
  4. Hi All, I am trying to help a client with a perimeter protection system for a gated community. I have experience with IP video surveillance and done some courses on analogue systems but I am not very familiar with alarms, which is why I came here for some help. Attached is a rough sketch of the layout. I plan on using long range active IR beams, hopefully integrated with a few IP cameras that will be managed on a milestone VMS server. The IR beams that I have decided to use are Alean AN900-B200 Triple Photo Electric IR Beam Detectors with 200m outdoor range. What I need help with would be how to connect each detector unit with a central control panel and then what panels would integrate easily with VMS software that is run on an IP network? Should I run alarm wire 100s of meters to a central location? With IP cameras as soon as trenching and cabling becomes cost prohibitive I normally install UBNT Loco M2's to communicate with the control room. Would this be a viable option when using IR detectors? What extra equipment would be needed to convert the relay signal into an digital format where it can be received at base on the VMS software? I have not been able to find a solution on how to transmit the alarm relay to base wirelessly. A lot of googling has also not yielded an answer. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Any other tips and ideas that would help also appreciated. Thanks. Jester Res Rough Sketch.pdf
