  1. Should I try disconnecting the backup battery that sits inside the 4600 control panel, power of the mains to the house. Wait a couple of minutes, reconnect the battery and switch on the mains. Would that reset the panel? Or would it loose all the codes when power is restored. Ie all the other zones would they be operational if no dips are touched

    Thank you

  2. Thanks everyone for their comments. Have put a smile on my face considering worldwide issues with the pandemic.

good old CRT TV's and Videos. Nostalgia going down blockbusters to rent the latest movie.

Before I throw this unit in the bin:

Please  see attached file it seems to me if I enter engineering mode then 5 followed by 4 for zone 4 then clear it should remove that zone altogether from the control panel.
If I can remove offending Zone altogether this would do till lockdown is over.
just sanity checking.i have disabled the batteries on 2 contacts, zone 4 the faulty one and zone 2 another door ( which I know works) , so 2 units have batteries disabled via dip switches on the units but if I do walk test on the alarm panel it still shows a tamper fault for zone 4.  I believe the control box has got its pants in a twist.

Ay thoughts to keep it running in the interim?

PS My thoughts have always been "if it works leave it alone" - i bet a new system wont last 25 years.....
Like todays cars all plastic and electronics to go wrong.....

    Many thanks

  3. Problem still the same . I removed board and replaced it with the one  on front door( which works fine)  which requires no additional wires, ( just the board in casing on door frame and a magnet on the door ) without changing any of the dip switches. It does not read the magnet on the front door. If unit was ok I would expect it to read that zone. As soon as you open or close the door under normal circumstances the red led light should come on.

My deduction is the unit communicates ok with scantronics 4600 control box.

The tempers work ok because if if move the board in your hand the tamper alarm goes off.

It does not read contact with door magnet.

I found a scantronics control box and 3 pirs on Ebay 2nd hand but could be a risk. If I could replace faulty contact with a pir in the same location that would work. Any advice or would I be wasting my money

  4. I have checked the wiring and it's ok. If I remove the unit from the wall and take it next to door magnet it does not read it. It is as if the board no longer recognises a magnet. And the scantronic indicates tamper all the time for that zone

My other contacts which are equal all work fine

    Thank you

Any advices on a good company and alarm make in west Sussex

I dont want to pay silly money with over inflated prices and sales pitches

Many thanks for all your replies so far

  5. Yes I have soldered new battery 3 days ago and tested it by switching battery dip on.  Unit transmits tamper alarms to 4600 control box, when you move it,but when situated next to a contact it does not activate. Red led does not light up when opening or closing a door.

The fault started by setting the alarm off when it was armed and it showed a tamper alarm for that zone.

Whenever you try to set the alarm you get a red light on that zone to indicate not ready to be alarmed.

If you put alarm on walk test it shows tamper for that zone.

Unit sits on a wall in the middle of a garage controlling 2 separate contacts on doors. It has 4 terminals and as such has 4 cables connected to it (red, yellow, blue and black)

Not sure if there are any generic radio controlled devices transmitting at 173.225mhz with 4 terminals that could be used.

Additionally another option would be a PIR 173.225mhz instead of faulty contact unit. Any ideas?

I would imagine to get a new one working would be to set the dip switches corresponding to the faulty unit.

Other thoughts would be to delete faulty zone altogether on the scantronics 4600, but I am not sure if it is an option or if the system would need a factory reset. I have the stencil and the engineering code.

All else failing would be to replace the entire system. Any recommendations on good quality radio transmitted systems.

    Any advice?

    Would be very welcomed

    Many thanks

  6. I am looking to buy the board for wireless contact scantronics part 04604uk-55   9d14

They are quite old units. Does anyone have one of these working?

I am happy to purchase complete unit as long as it is working

Or does anyone know anywhere I can purchase it. They were made around 1999

    Many thanks

trying to avoid having to replace complete system due to one faulty board.
