Old Shorrock 1500

Recommended Posts

Yes, I know it's old (very,1968) but I still need the user manual, well, page two only, the one showing how to change the user code, or Keycode as Shorrock call it.

It's in section 2.1.3, I've got all the rest but this page got ripped at sometime in the past and I'm missing the top half, too many bits of paper in the same box, and the bit I want has gone!

If anyone has these details I would be very grateful,

Hi Magpye,

I work for Initial and even I havent got a manual on that thing. I will try and get the info tommorrow for you off some of the old timers. They may be old but there is still a few of them out there. I had the pleasure on sunday after the lightning of trying to prog one (without the manual). cheers

kgilly,

thanks for that, sounds right but, I'd rather know, best to ring the customer with 'do this' rather than 'do this, see if it works', if you see what I mean.

I am sure it is Code #. It is * to isolate zones..

The 1500 didnt have any programming to it. It was all done via cutting resistors or links on the main PCB. The only thing you can programme via the keypad was the codes.

One of the easier Shorrock panels.

Try doing the 1600 not the KS1600 with out a programming card. Now thats fun.

i'm gathering you never see a shorrock 72 4 zone panel keyswitch or the one with the solinoid so you can't turn the keyswitch to on while the system is in fault???

Magpye,

I havent forgot. Im meeting an engineer at the office tomorrow and he has a reference card that shows how to prog a 1600. He did try to explain over the phone but it seems a bit long winded. I will post tomorrow

Well, I'm sorry, could not think of the model number for one of those, know how to fix them though, take the covers off the relays and give them a good blow - if they ever went wrong that is.

Once installed a multicircuit, about 8/10 boxes (100 or so cts.)with great big rotary switches for isolation etc, and two 'pea' bulbs to each circuit.

If I hunt hard enough, I might even have some paperwork if any one needs it for fault finding!!!!! - I bet it would still work today even after 25+ years. how many of todays panels will be working in 25+ years, not many, if any.

ps

Who renmembers the old Acorn control panels from, I think, Cornwall. Both battery only and a mains version?

I think that Ive heard of the acorn panels, did they come in wooden boxes and only had a key switch on the front.

Some of the old stuff was built to last, apart from not liking surges, lightning etc they seem to last 15+ years no problem. I have spent many a happy couple of hours trying to fix the latter model shorrocks & securicor panels, most of them do tend to come back to life and stay ok.

No mention of one of the first muliplexed panels, the 2000 and the CATS coded alarm transmitters, Acorn at the time a great little panel, why did they have that dull green and brown colour scheme for their early panels like the 72

I've seen a few of the old Group 4 panels (various models - don't ask which ones) and have the displeasure of having to service these twice a year. Never get called out to them though.

Magpye try this, its taken from a shorrock programing guide.

Enter the prog mode

<> option 8 ent

<> cycle through keycodes

^ select keycode type

<> options OFF, 19 master, 20 normal, 21 all on, 22 area 1, 23 area 2,

24 area 1 on, 25 area 2 on,

^ selects option

Hope this helps, I have never been into the prog side of a 1600 so this is as

clear as mud to me. cheers

The old 72 series panel was probably one of their best panels. Built to last. Although you open some of them up and a pile of sid boards or zone splitters would fall out in front of you. The other thing with Shorrock everything was always relays. I remember getting called out to a site and I asked the guy where his panel was and he said over there. It was a cupboard with a keyswitch and a couple of leds. Open the door and it was full of relay boards. What fun I had that night.

As for their newer stuff, I was one of the first to fit the 1600 panel up North along with the big 170 white basin bell box. Mind you it was easier and lighter to put up. 1600 had many problems to it like the final set button having a high resistance and locking out the keypad. 2000 & 2100 was an installers dream and a service mans nightmare. Easy for the installer to fit cats anywhere but try finding a fault when half your cats go RF failed. Had it once at a large supermarket was there most of the night and it turned out to be a cat that was no where near the circuits that went into fault.

Those were the days lol

cheers Kev

I'm enjoying this,

Sunthorne ACP-2D, Solfan 1100 Control, Radiovisor Monive Panels, how about some realy obscure panels - Brocks RAED, Brocks pre'74 with 'traffic lights', Mather & Platt 20 Series, Maxim Control Panel, Selmar (no, not the car alarm), YTA, Songuard, I could go on but I think I'll save a few for another day.

Perhaps we could reminisce about old detectors as well, a few to start you off >> Westool MWD, Cerberus Seismic Detector, Frowds Pulsonic USD System, Radartron Invisible Radar, that'll do for starters, your turn now.

PJF,

I'm sorry, thanks for that, I think I'll go and have a look rather than a phone call now, I'm not so sure about your instructions though, I think kgilly is nearer the mark with his suggestion, let you know next week.

Wow

Saw the post above that read

'Sunthorne ACP-2D, Solfan 1100 Control, Radiovisor Monive Panels, how about some realy obscure panels - Brocks RAED, Brocks pre'74 with 'traffic lights', Mather & Platt 20 Series, Maxim Control Panel, Selmar (no, not the car alarm), YTA, Songuard, I could go on but I think I'll save a few for another day.

Sunthorne ACP-2D - also marketed by Ademco. I think our firm still has a coupe of these fitted and maintained.

Solan 1100 - never heard if that, but remember Solfan microwaves.

Radiovisor Monive - fell out of bed with ie of these. Took over a Banham Alarm. Banhams used to install them. Agreed to do the takeover over the phone without seeing the system.

Would love more info on Maxim, the Brocks Panels, the I'd Modern Alarms Panels and the Mather and Platt gear.

How about the London firm DGI (Dalton Glass Industries). They were taken over by Modern Alarms. They had there own panels. Then ofcourse, we also ave the London based Intercept Alarms, who were acquired by MASCO (Who, themselves were taken over by Protection One, and then ADT)

Remember the Contronic ultrasonic detectors used by Modern Alarms.

Remember Sheild Protection o Britton Street, later acquired by Hoeywell to form Heywell Shield, later to become Brittania along with Dick Cody and Aylescort of Rainham Essex.

Radar Electrosystems.

Gem Alarms

M-tonic,

GAF (General Alarm Factors)

Combat Alarms.

PPR Alarms.

Spectre

MLS (Major Lock Services)

Metropolitan Alarms.

Lion security - Fred Hering - Potters Bar.

August Alarms of Palmers Green (Alarm Johnson or Jordon)

SAS - Safety Alarms Systems of Rickansworth.

Daynalarm of Rickansworth

Intervene security.

London Guard

Instant Aid Protection.

Securicor Alarms.

Granly alarms.

Solar alarms

Enright Security.

Aerial Alarms.

Express alarm systems.

Ideal burglar alarms.

The sentinel alarm company.

Anyone remember Denvire? Based in SW1

Captor - what ever happened to them?

A1 Security Harrow.

Rouse Security Service (RSS)

Crown Security Systems in Central London - what ever appended to them?

Atlantis alams of Hemel Hempstead. Again, what ever happened to there clients?

Monitiring Stations - anyone remember Monitron in Ebury Brirge Road Victoria? What ever happened to them?

Remember STC Central Station in Finchley?

The list goes on
