Nathan Howson
Hello hive mind, I have recently bought a property which has an ADE Optima Compact panel installed. I’m unsure what generation but from other forums it appears to be a Gen 4 (I’ll post a picture). The panel is completely unresponsive to anything, no sound or change in LEDs illuminated; the only thing it shows is the power LED illuminated in red. Can anyone suggest anything to help? Thanks in advance.

PeterJames
If you have no code for it, and you dont know what your doing then my advice would be to leave it alone and get someone that does. They are good little panels if they have been regularly serviced but if they havent been touched for a few years then the charging circuit gets knackered by the dead battery, then the panel becomes useless
sixwheeledbeast
They lockout when they are not looked after. I would suggest you get someone out to see if can be serviced, new battery and re programmed for your needs. Alarms need regular maintenance to be reliable. Nathan Howson
Thanks for the responses, I think that will be what we end up doing. For clarity, we do know the code and it was used by the previous owner, who lived here up until we moved in. She apparently unhooked the battery, no idea why! We reconnected the battery. Does this give anyone any idea as to how to help? Thanks again!
Specialist
The battery is quite probably faulty and as Peter James pointed out, the charging circuit may also be faulty now. You could try replacing the battery and checking the charging circuit output with a multimeter, but you may just be throwing away the cost of the battery. 1 Quote Customers Love us, Intruders Hate us. sixwheeledbeast
As above you can try a new battery and power cycle it. However, if you don't test the controls and there is a fault it will wreck the battery and become unreliable again
Nathan Howson
Thanks all, I’ll get a new panel. Many recommendations for systems/ tradespeople in Preston, Lancashire? Specialist
Hi Nathan: Replacing your panel like for like with another Optima compact & new battery would be well within the capabilities of a competent DIY'ER and cost £60 - £70. If going this route please ensure that you turn off the Mains electricity before touching it and if your in any doubt about your ability to do the work safely, please call an alarm engineer. Specialist
Because I don't have a thing about upgrading just for the sake of it, an ADE Optima is a perfectly adequate panel for a lot of small domestic properties. Simple to install and easy to use, they work out well for a lot of people. Quote Customers Love us, Intruders Hate us.
datadiffusion
All LED panels are fine until something goes wrong at 3am, then you'll have no clue what is happening, worse if you're a DIYer. Absolutely mad to even consider one given the price of any half decent LCD panel. 1 Quote So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands

sixwheeledbeast
I see no issue with LED panels, in fact for a DIYer they are more likely to come with basic instructions and have success at a working system. Saying that I personally wouldn't fit one any more for the extra cost it's worth it for "full panel" features, like EOL or a decent sized event log.

Agreed: The reason for suggesting the same panel was for the ease of a DIY swap out and as you so rightly point out the strongest possibility of a first time fix. james.wilson
I like the optima accenta etc. Not a high end panel obviously but perfect for the little things. I'd install them if they were grade 2 Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount. datadiffusion
Everything depends on what you were trained on, as I've said before we were unusual back in the mid 90s in only installing LCD Gardtec 816s etc..., so would feel very odd to me downgrading new installations nearly 30 years later! I'm not saying I didn't play with LED panels but have only ever installed one, a gardec 300 or similar) after that I started contracting for the above firm and changed all my subsequent work to 9651 or better straight away (don't ask why I didn't use gardtec again!). Even my first ever system crash (my parents) at the age of 13 or something stupid was a 9800. I do agree that for some DIY the scope will be limited to exact replacements, also if you are not going to convert from global tamper to EoL, then there is a fair bit less benefit. Specialist
Hi data: There's no argument, we just have different opinions. When I first started, we were using Bentley 2 zone battery only panels for domestic stuff. At one time (Later years) we were using Gardtec kit as well, a lot of people disliked them with a passion but I think they did exactly what it said on the box. I only use LCD panels and EOL or wireless for installs but if someone asked me to fit an LED panel, I wouldn't have a problem with doing that. sixwheeledbeast
May just be me but I'd much prefer a Veritas over a Gardtic 816. OTOH I don't agree with having the customer select the panel and fit LED from new. They have called an engineer out for advice but want you to fit LED against your advice, rings alarm bells (excuse the pun).
Specialist
Wasn't actually thinking about using LED for a new system at the time, but in the context of replacing like for like. Having said that, if someone who had bought a system with an LED panel couldn't install it. I wouldn't turn down the installation just because it was an LED panel.
