just seems odd they serviced it in Feb !

When did they last charge you for a battery? Not all alarm companies are the same and not all engineers have the proper training or understand how things work. I have come across systems with ten year old batteries in them, yet the system has been serviced every year. We took over a leisure center a couple of years ago because the incumbent company had told them that the panel was knackered and wanted a small fortune to replace it. We replaced it for less money but while we were changing the kit we found numerous batteries that were knackered which had probably been the cause of the diagnosis that the panel was knackered. This system had been serviced by several nationals and a local co whilst the batteries were passed their sell-by. A decent local company will have changed your battery every four years regardless.

The TA (Tamper) & PA (Personal attack) lights would only light in the event one of these circuits was activated.

The day light would normally be on once the panel is fully reset and in normal day mode.

Yeah none of those are on, just the buttons...IMG_7179.HEIC

Hi Jez: Let us know what your Installer says, hopefully it will just need a battery and check over. Unfortunately I'm using my tablet at the moment so can't open the picture file.

Out of interest your using modern ios tech to post about your really old alarm, would you be interested in keeping your security system up to date for half what you pay to apple?

Err its an alarm we have literally just inherited and my modern tech is provided by my job, so i didn't pay anything for that?

Guys am I missing something here ?. The OP came here for help and was given it, he took the advice to call the Installer to look at the system.

Why the sudden interrogation about what technology he uses to access the forum ?, What difference does it make to anything and more to the point, what business is it of ours ?.

He has an older alarm that for whatever reason, needs to be kept running if possible. Personally I don't care what technology he uses to access the forum or why he needs to keep the system running, it's not my business.

Sorry mate, I thought we wanted more people to come here for help and in the process help keep the forum going.

To me this doesn't do that, it goes the opposite way.

I still say a good, well maintained, fit for purpose system wouldn't need ripping out. People are too quick to add to the E-waste pile IMO.

It's easy to say you swap your car or phone more regularly than your alarm but most of this consumer stuff is designed with a short lifespan in mind and you are trapped to a platform.

A lot of my electronic equipment is 10 years old but its well looked after, I'd only plan to replace it when it's unserviceable.

As you can see people don't agree. It's all down to if you see it as a box pushing game or a service industry IMO.

You can push as many shiny new boxes as you want but customers want a good service, it's the peace of mind and trust in your system and installer people should focus on.

To me, shiny new boxes are all well and good in their place. i.e when I definitely can't bring something back to life.

Maybe I'm just a masochist :)

The engineer has been and it was the bloke who's been before and said we had been locked out because of the power cut.

Already has his battery with him, went to the main box and asked me to put my code in when the alarm went off. Came back down walk tested all the sensors and that was it fixed. Said all our settings, code etc will be the same.

So as people suggested it was the battery that needed replacing.

In theory is this something i could do in the future as it was obviously my code and not the engineer code when he opened the box and the tamper switch went off? Battery needed is a rechargeable 12v battery in region of 1.2 to 6Ah.

And even worse worse case scenario the alarm only goes off for 20mins on a Accenta 6?

Thank you for all the help :)

Hi Jez: Yes, from what you've said then it's quite feasible for you to change the battery yourself in the future. Did he take a meter up into the attic to check charging voltage / current ?.

Sorry: Not sure what you mean by even worse case scenario, bell only sounds for 20 minutes on the Accenta 6 ?. That's more than enough time to deter a burglar and really annoy your neighbours.

Sorry was trying to do several things at once, your Installer should have set the sounder cut off time to no more than 15 minutes.
