Scantronic 9851 crashing?

Recommended Posts

I have a Scantronic 9851 system installed with 14 zones, it was already installed in the house when we moved here two years ago. Recently I was unable to reset the system after an alarm; I was told that the control panel had crashed following an alarm activation causing a loss of 12v DC and that the control equipment needed to be replaced with a Texecom system. I've had good service from Scantronic systems for many years, so I did not have this done. At Christmas, the smoke alarm set the system off when cooking the Christmas dinner and the system was reset using the access code as normal. I'm reluctant to spend a lot of money replacing equipment which is working OK. Can anyone advise please whether the alleged fault is likely to be real and how to check the system out.

The smoke alarm activated the internal siren (enough to wake the dead) but not the external siren. Is it possible that if the external siren is activated then it will draw additional power which will cause the central control system to crash? It seems a little unlikely but I would appreciate a professional opinion. Maybe the external siren could be faulty or need a new battery?

Why you haven't explained is what the engineer did to correct it

Did he reprograme it? If so then this will happen again at some point

If it just corrected itself then again it will happen again probably when your out and someone tries to break in as a worst case

As above if you don't look after something , servicing etc then these things will happen

Thing is why wouldn't you update your system like you do your phone or computer etc

Many thanks for all your advice. I have always had my intruder alarm systems annually serviced but never had to replace the complete system. I guess the best thing I can do is to try to find a Scantronics specialist in the SE London area who is willing to check out what is in place and fix what is not working properly; finding such a person may not be easy, so I'll get on with it soonest. Best wishes.

There's many who fit scantronic in London call around ,menu system hasn't changed on some models ,

If you always have it serviced where has engineer disappeared to?

More a case of call out charges etc most will charge £150+ to come and see you unless you find a local house basher
