Quad v ordinary detectors

Do you use quad detectors as a matter of course? I’ve seen some posts here saying that all reputable installers use quad detectors. But that doesn’t seem right - Texecom for example only sells one kit with quad detectors in it. The rest have ordinary pet friendly ones.

wondering whether there is really a benefit

IMO quads are the better detector for domestic environments. I do use pet detectors, I have a pet myself and use the Bossch Blueline DT, never had a fa and the detectors see me when I walk around the areas that I allow my dog when the system is set. In my bedrooms I have quad detectors. We only use quads we wont use cheap detectors they are just not worth it to save £5 per detector. We use Optex RX 40 mostly (Optex only make detectors so they are good at it) or the HKC Quad if we are using ID wiring.

Use quads as a minimum here as well. Same as above Optex or Bosch Bluline on the rare occasion I have to use a pet sensor.

Consider many pet sensors mask or desensitise an area this can make them slow to respond in some environments.

I fit Texecom controls and I never buy kits, they package the minimum stuff up for DIYers but there is never a job they fit well on, even some of the smaller kits.

I purchase specific tested products from different manufacturers for the applications they go in, otherwise you may as well buy a kit from B&Q would be easier to install too.

The wireless Pyronix pet sensors you have to do two backflips and a cartwheel for the bloody things to detect movement.

true, but if you cut the top bar off the pet mask they are a lot more sensitive but still tolerate pets.

nothong comes close to the bosch for being sensitive while still disregarding pets  though.

Yeah I was actually told that by Pyronix tech support when I first fitted them and struggled to walk test. A bit of a **** design if you have to do that ain't it

They need to be installed at 2.1 meters rather than 2.4 meters for the standard pir’s.

Only ever fit dualtec’s.

I did a sub job , they provided texecom dualtecs , i mainly use Honeywell dt

The texe version probably ok but gave to many fa , had to change them all and all gone quiet

Not to say Honeywell are better question for you dudes

Do you ever find some properties just don't get on with the some pirs and DTS or simply you stick to one brand and it always works?

Yeah I noticed they worked better lower down but that's still no good on a domestic. They need to be near the ceiling else it looks poor in my opinion
