Covert Cameras

Sorry if this has been posted before had a look and couldn't find anything...

I've been asked to install covert cameras in a Salon and network it, due to stock and money going missing.

My advice was he'd probably need to have a camera on show say covering the reception area with a CCTV warning sign in place, then we could install the covert cameras?

Any ideas?

cheers

Covert is allowed for a specific problem i.e. you know whats going on but need to prove it. The wording in the DPA is

Although the Data Protection Act would not necessarily prohibit covert monitoring of staff, it would generally only be justified in exceptional circumstances and we would advise that a data controller exercise caution when proposing monitoring of this type. The monitoring should also be warranted, specific and limited.
