Ah! It seems these panels are so old now that no one has the manuals any more, oh well two to cross off of the list, thankfully one of our engineers had the Modern Alarms Series 74 & 80's manuals, took me months to get hold of those :)

Just looked through my AFA / Thorn archive.

I don't have any thing on those systems either.

Mind you- if you do ever come across any old AFA burglar alarms (G type) relay burglar alarm panels withe round drum boxes- I got info on those.... not that, that will help you!

Will ask around some fellow ex Thorn engineers.

Hi Bagpuss

Thank you for looking, I forgotten all about this thread :D , by chance two weeks ago I was going through one of our long untouched cupboards in the office and came across the user guide for the System 7002 & 7008 as well as engineering guides (of sorts) for the System 208, System 416 & System 6001

However I was told by a colleage that chance of finding these panels out in the wild now is minimal to impossible (I believe the 208, 416 & 6001 were old bank/high security panels that were replaced a hell of a long time ago), unfortunately we don't have any on the G-Type, System 9010, System 9020, System 9001, System 9003, but again I believe these have all but gone these days?

Bagpuss, we are grateful that you would try to help but this topic was posted in 2011 I would think the poster would have either solved his problem or installed a new panel by now

I'd have bet on that at Labrookes. However....!

So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands

To be honest I had a list of panels we had out there so I was just after the books on the off chance, however no one has ever asked for one so it was a case of having one "just in case" more than anything else, I doubt we'll ever be asked for one not in 2014  :)

Apologies for the late reply (again). I have been in hospital.

I know of a couple of "G-Type" relay installations still going. Though with subtle modifications, with them having their circuit batteries removed and the end linked out to make a continuous closed loop.

A mains/battery PSU has been added.

What amuses me is that someone has actually gone to the trouble to modify these systems- when in actual fact it'd have been easier (proberly cheaper) to just rip it out and replace it.

However- I now work in the Film Industry as a visual effects engineer.

I am currently involved in a feature film set in the 60s, and the set requires an 'authentic' burglar alarm panel for the bank and vault.

If anyone has ripped out any old kit recently, and hasn't yet skipped it- if you want to get rid of it! Let me know!

Ive got a tanbury datalock 2000, that doesnt appear to have a single ic in it! It was removed from one of the uks oldest aircraft hangers. Dont have the keypad but that seems to just had one switch per wire on a common...

I hate it when films get that sort of stuff wrong. Watched the 1970s episode of Utopia recently to see fire doors with 1990s style stickers, (ironically the later episode set in present day had fire doors with the old diamond shaped stickers!) and in one scene an led emergency light with green glow filling half the shot...
