Oxford
I drive a vivaro, large enough to get everything I need and returns good mpg. Ideal for the larger/ more industrial installs I do. Looks good and drives like a car.

alterEGO
Clearly paying yourself too much. Got the option of both and to be honest, i prefer using the van. I would if i was doing alot on the tools. I enjoy doing more but i don't have the time, i had to get the extension ladders out of stores for the first time in over 12 months last week as i'm the only one local at the min. I tend to just do faults ect.
Alarm Protection
We have 2 Ford Connects and although the alternators have been replaced on both, they have been good vans. Both done over 80k so will be looking soon to replace. Might go for a Vivaro and a Astra next? !

Worst thing about them is that gearbox thrash noise, they sound like tanks. Caddy maxi looks like the best bet to me, might just contract hire this time as they offer free servicing for 3 years/30,000 miles at £209 a month. Mr Marco
We have Caddy's and the bigger Transporters at work. The guys with the caddy's thing they are okay but complain they are smaller in the back than the Connect's they used to have. Same can be said for the Transporter I have. I would much prefer to have my Transit back. More space and a far better drive than the VW vans. A car would be even better but sadly thats not an option "They put me in a box with my coat on! I know it doesn't sound much.."
itesecurity
We have Astra estates. Can't fault them TBH. We have a 2.5 litre VW Transporter for any big jobs and to tow the MEWP if its needed.

To be fair we have the bottom of the range Transporters. Manual windows, no armrests they don't even have a temp gauge! I drove a hired Transporter minibus for a weekend and it was a world away from my van. I'm guessing that was a 2.5 as it was considerably quicker than my van, even when its empty. I do still prefer the Fords though. They have reverted to the Transits at our place now but I don't have one....Yet! Oddly enough GMP went through a VW phase at the time as we got our vans and they have gone back to Ford too. My guess was VW must have been offering some VERY good fleet deals at the time that Ford couldn't match. "They put me in a box with my coat on! I know it doesn't sound much.." I too drive a Transporter, can't fault it, also find it far better than the tranny.
Mr Marco
Deals? You mean like Ford must be doing now? I too drive a Transporter, can't fault it, also find it far better than the tranny. I thought Ford were famous for their low fleet prices? Thats what I was once told. I just thought it was strange that around the same time several large fleet companies switched to buying Transporters then some time later switched back to the Transits. Lets face it, the bottom line is all that matters to these firms and if they can get a lower unit price from VW then thats who they will buy from. My main gripe is space with the Transporters. The 'Standard' one (can't tell you the model, mine doesn't even have a model badge!) is considerably smaller than the equivalent base model Transit. We carry a lot of plant and stock and moving from the Ford to the VW was a big difference. Up front the Ford has more cubby holes etc and more goodies as standard and to some these are important factors as well as their cracking TDCi engine in some of the models. Its all subjective of course, just pointing out some facts. I would guess at the Ford parts being more plentiful especially in years to come as there are more Transits/Connects on the road. I haven't had a new caddy but I did have and old one years ago. It was a tough old thing but didn't age as well as the Escort vans we had at the time. "They put me in a box with my coat on! DachaSecurity
Hi all Im looking at getting a new van and thinking about a VW caddy, anyone got one? They any good? Can anyone suggest a better van? If you can afford it, the Transporter is superb. You can get your ladders and steps inside so car parks are no problem. with a caddy you will have to keep getting your ladders of every time there is a height restriction. RichL
Anyone got a Bipper or whatever the Fiat equivalent is? Been thinking about getting shot of the Caddy as it seems a bit thirsty. sixwheeledbeast
Bipper or whatever the Fiat equivalent is? Fiorino (Mark 3) is the Fiat Also there's a Citroen Nemo, there all the same van. The Fiat has a 1.3 Diesel and the Citroen/Peugeot do a 1.3 and a 1.4 Diesel. Only really a small delivery van tho, I couldn't get all my install gear in plus triples on the roof. Thanks, having a look in the back of the caddy its very rarely even a quarter full. Whats the problem with getting ladders on the roof, Should be ok with decent roof bars?
