Anpr Software

Has anyone used ANPR via standard cameras? It seems to work ok with enough light and stationary or slow moving cars.

I've seen it used at petrol stations but can't find much info on the web.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

TB.

Which engine are you using?

I went up into the attic...I found a Stradavarius & a Picasso. Unfortunately.....

Stradavarius couldn't paint, and Picasso made a shocking fiddle.

I'm not using anything at the moment. I have a customer who wants to count vehicles through his premises and was hoping to adapt his existing CCTV system to do this.

Point to point IR beams ?

Don't know what it's called but how about the pneumatic 'thing' that you drive over at garages ?

I would have thought one of these connected to a counter of some sort would be more reliable and cost effective ?

Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.

I considered that but a conventional counter - tripped pneumatically or by two IR beams - won't do the job due to the layout of the premises. Also, he wants the information to be available remotely so that he can access it from any PC as with the CCTV system, therefore the idea of ANPR came up.

Just an obvious thought.....

If he wants to know how many cars are using his pumps then he can gauge this from his EPOS through the transaction log? Dont tell him though, you might lose a sale!!!

With regard to camera's, you can use any type of camera really but the Derwent REG cameras spray IR on the numberplate to reflect the letters and it also has a filter for dealing with headlights where the IRIS cannot adjust.

With standard cameras, in a forecourt environment, the light is pretty constant so they can get away with it but if you need to record at night or a dimly lit area, you need the IR backup to view the plate!!!

It's not a petrol station; it's an indoor hand car wash so no EPOS. The lighting is good so headlights shouldn't be a problem except on the odd Volvo.

He wants to log vehicles so he can match throughput with revenue. That's why I was interested in a 'bolt on' solution using the existing system albeit with the addition of one or two extra cameras specifically to capture plates.

We install ANPR systems.......

I've posted about them before: http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/comm...st&p=163109

If you want guaranteed results use Derwent: http://www.derwentcctv.com/home/index.php?...5&show=true

alternatively contact Norbain and ask them about the Vista ANPR software.
