Is that anywhere near coventry
He can't say, not talking to you.
-
But on the plus side, at least you should have found the way there and back.
-
The camera alerts that come with the garmin seem pretty spot on.
-
Honest answer?Have picked up garmin and first impressions are good. Screen is crystal clear and traffic connects quickly.
The power cable is very thick and non standard so will need to purchase an additional one for other car
Here comes first question cubit ... Can you import your own car icon as have always had pic of works car as icon and it seems odd without it !
No idea, never tried. Blue triangle does me just fine.
Might be worth having a snoop here though.

What type does it take ? Ultra micro or just micro ?
micro sd

Well the garmin is reserved and waiting to be picked up today. Await a load of questions cubit ! As said have only had tom tom since they came out many years ago. Hope they similar in the way they operate.
Get yourself a memory card for it (8GB will suffice). You'll be busy upgrading the maps, firmware etc tonight.
-
Its an Alpine head unit I have in my van. Like I said ok unit. But, the maps are never the latest, only updated once a year....and at a cost of £100 a time.
Them update costs mount up, making the Garmins a cheaper option. The traffic and accident updates, whilst helpful aren't anywhere near as good as the garmins realtime either.

Hey there Sixwheel, you're correct its because of cost, if i convert it from my currency it would be 13 euro's for the pcb.
Okay so ill take the outside monitoring out of the equation, i was really considering a vibration detector aswell, do you possibly know any DIY ways of creating one ? Like i mentioned i have two zones so with the 160 degree PIR and maybe contacts for the windows i could come out with a decent system ?
Thank you for your help. Much appreciated.
Brightened up the day.

I use my phone when Im on foot?
Oh dear.
You made it sound like you had your good lady sat t the side of you.
-
Phone (nexus 6) did audio directions though phone kit (bury 9060)
They kept the launch of that quiet.
The one that came with my jag is very good, I speak the postcode whilst driving along, she tells me if there's a traffic jam ahead and gives me alternative routes. I tell her I'm hungry and she tells me where the nearest eateries are. And to go home I just say navigation go home brilliant
But what do you do when your lass isn't with you?
-
Must be made for alarm engineers in mind then !
The one you have does the mount stay on glass and you just remove device or do you always have to remove the device with the mount also ?
I leave the mount on the screen. Holds well.
The satnav is held onto the holder by a super magnet. Connections are part of the fitting so simple to disconnect.
I don' like the phone ones - can't surf the web at the same time.
I have one built into the head unit but, whilst good, it just isn't as adaptable as the portable ones - i use it for a journey overview.
Like all toys, i suppose i all depends on how much you'll use it as to its value.
I cover North of Scotland to 6 finger bumpkin territory (Cornwall), so for me, it pays for itself.

A colleague had the cheaper one and says it's a good device apart from he can't find a way to disable the poi enabled on device. Now most probably it's him just being thick ? Think your right and I should just treat myself
More options than you can shake a stick at for settings.
I think Matt has shares in them though - i don't think you can turn off the McDonalds poi, but hey, i'm sure we could all find that useful occasionally.
-
They are the 2 I've been looking at. Doing a compare side by side i can't see where the £120 difference is between the 2 units. Only main difference as you say is the screen ?
I personally consider it well worth it.
Pin sharp images, cracking display.
Go on, treat yourself.
-
If you have the pennies, then this is the one to get:
If you want a cheaper option - very similar model , but poorer screen then look at the 2598 variant.

changing stuff takes a lot of time,
Don't have the time or VC money to burn,
Have loads of stuff I want to tweak but suspect there little change happening any time soon ?
Enough things change on pooters and networks without any added interventions.
-
Jeff, you been chewing on a bag of wasps?
You've been coming out with some cracking barbs lately.
Keep up the good work.
-
Sack them off.
You do need an engineer because he will have to check in the panel.
Simple enough. But it is NOT the end users job.
-
They are interested, trust me, but don't want to commit.
Give it a year
Hence it's on the cards, but a low priority compared to lucrative Elec and Gas
Exactly.
Code monkeys aren't cheap. so priorities have to be made.

Did speak to Clik and suggest a version geared to our game would sell well at their price structure but they didn't really seem to be interested.
Can you blame them?
You say you aren't happy with your current database but still won't jump.
Why do you thik those that are 'comfortable ' with their current offering would?
They may save a grand getting a new DB then spend what on populating it, testing it, getting familiar etc etc.
Clik know exactly how many would move across. It's their job to know.

God knows how many new Asda's gonna be sprouting up for you Southerners too. The small supermarket type.
-
Suppose you could go to spar for a proper doing over
Market forces dear boy.
Aldi and lidl are being a pain to some. Why might that be?
Local Greengrocer, market stall usually cheaper too.
-
as for food prices, the large supermarkets have been robbing people blind for years.
Better to get the supermarkets to have lower prices so everyone can benefit.
Lets face it if those that cant afford food because its expensive (over priced) rely on donations to food banks that others have been over charged for, hardly solving the problem, and the supermarkets get away with making money out of those that care about others?
I wasn't aware it was compulsory to use them.

if it were so difficult to install a camera on a wall why would maplins sell them...christ ive worked in the building trade for 30 years and IT for 10 - think i can install a camera on a wall and wire it through too the receiver...

TA TA - WONT BE BACK
I'm just a thick cnut Cubit - don't drag me back into this!
And clearly misinterpreted identifying suspects as meaning that 'FaceArrest' software as featured on CSI Ambleside.
But he won't be back, off to Grahams for a builders spec CCTV kit no doubt! He works in IT you know?
The funniest thing is that we are such assholes to people they then line up to offer us £200 for 4 camera CCTV jobs...
Clearly a builder.
Reckon he's arfwits sparky.

So, a budget of £199 then. Just like DD said.£1000 is way out of budget TBH I was hoping no more than £400 in total (£200 each)
As you've already been told, you ain't gonna get anyone on here recommending anything at that price band.no matter how many times you ask.
