  1. Its just the business Economy of Scales as they buy bulk and so get a bigger discount. Our company even sells on Construction side to other tradesmen. We never used to always charge but we only recently started charging in last year or so. Our company uses a company called Scott & Co or Yuill + Kyle Sometimes just having a third party 'Debt Collection' company just look at well known Pay Day Firms doing it!
  2. Our panels are locked and which the system did not recognise the new contacts and etc. But he had removed panel which the Tamper switch went off and that needs the engineer code on this alarm to switch the alarm off while the user code will silence it but it go off every 20mins until engineer code put in. Oh as soon as I looked at the panel I took pictures of the seal and even made notes on system and got him to agree to statement and sign the statement. Including agreed that he wanted myself to bring panel back to where we had last maintained the alarm. I did explain he got us to do the work and refused to pay us will result in this being passed to Credit Control who will properly pass this to a recovery agency which in Scotland we need go to Courts and get a Sheriff Officer for a writ/warrant to be issued. I tried to get payment via our Chip n Pin Machines but he started to get rude and etc so I just left. Myself I would NEVER touch electrics or my gas boiler coz I just don't know what I am doing but I think people think Alarms are easy as its just a few bits of cables.
  3. He was a wonderful chap, Would not let me enter until he had phoned office to verify my ID!!!!
  4. Well was on call today and got sent to a property and information I got was. 'Alarm panel just went out while doing diy around panel possible faulty tamper switch' So our alarm panels we install have 'Sealed' labels which basically means it been opened by a outside company so it can not be stuck together which I then asked the homeowner, Have you had a other alarm installer out as i see our sealed label is broken which he responded. 'Oh No I opened it up as I added some extra PiR sensors and door contacts' well that was the start. In our company the contract is quite clear which he voided his maintenance agreement which lead him to a £85 call out fee (Sunday Fee) £99 repair fee (He agreed for myself to fix the problem at cost to him) He refused to pay as he felt he had not broke his contract with us to maintain his alarm and he said 'You got zero chance to get that money too' He could of paid us £30 to get the stuff added and never broke his contract! How would you feel about it? Have any of you experienced this before? I was more annoyed he tried to tell call centre something different to get us to attend to repair and then refuse to pay for when he admitted he had broke the seal and etc. We even have a sticker on panel which says 'Do not open as maintenance contract will be voided and charged may be occurred for any faults and repairs call 0333 xxx xxxx to report faults'
  5. I would love to see that on somebody business card. I get why a window cleaner but like Sparkies carry ladder on roof and even local council inspectors drive white vans with ladder on roof. Their vans do say 'Building Stronger Communities'
  6. So this comes from the following chat I had with a neighbour. So drinking my cuppa tea and get a knock at the door and my neighbour at door, Must be checking about parcel or something. No he asks. Neighbour - 'Alrite Bud, Is that your van downstairs' Me - 'Aye, whats up' Neighbour - 'I know you install Alarms and that type stuff so you must be a sparky eh' Me - 'Naw I not a sparky' Neighbour - 'So What are you then?' *Well we're a well known company and I think you know answered your own question* Well.....Does anybody else have experiences like this?
  7. I told you my head hurts, I only have a wee head.
  8. Oh ma wee head is confused to the evening, I just going back to watch my Alpha House! *Now awaiting a Response from Norman or Mr Happy*
  9. Just tell me what you mean, Coz I don't want ask it and I look like a plonker. I just texted the guy who my apprentice to find out if he knows what it means.
  10. I never meant laddies I meant Ladies!!!!! Unless your of course Like men which we all got be fair and equal now a days chaps! I don't understand what you mean by he's on a promise?
  11. I can officially recommend the Hudl2 - I got one and it is great, Previously had iPad and Hudl2 is great coz you got loads children features and access and child blocks and etc. Plus its the google Play store which is like 1000% better than apple App store! It got a great, clear screen, Fantastic speakers and its surprisedly fast plus awesome colours!
  12. They look awesome to be honest, Sure laddies will enjoy us real men! Work gets them issued with our company name on them and etc. So I don't worry about price lol. I seen some 'trademen' who are trying look good while I have no time to fix my hair. Was actully at a site and the joiner was busy fixing his hair for a while As my gaffer says 'Better to be busy than no job' - Which at that point he normally asks why your in his office and not at site working!
  13. Unsure about Flowers but I do Intruder, CCTV, Locks and Access Control and we got loads of work booked. A know there doing interviews last week for new engineers to start asap.
  14. Depends on far away the Cabin and Shed are from Control Unit on wireless and wired unit. Plus what is in your shed that you want to secure it?
  15. Some of us work 12 hour shifts, We not got enough men for the work we got! Yea I am thinking there be comfy, Glad my company went back to sporty polo shirts.
  16. So I guess you all wear comfy trousers. Today I got my new uniform, Company changes uniform every 3-4 years and what we get and today we all got snicker trousers and god they are comfy and so light and soft. What do you guys think? Are they good and still comfy after 12 hours and crawling about lofts and etc?
  17. I use T-Strippers rather than Wire Strippers and I never thought about the T, I just assumed it was like you get K Strippers and B Strippers. However don't google T Strippers the result was not Safe for work. The BT Redcare equipment we get is good quality btw!
  18. I was just thinking about this today. So we all have our tools for installing systems and etc, My tools are supplied by my employer however I know plenty of you work for yourselves or supply your own tools which I like to ask What tools do you carry? If you had to pick your favourite tool what would it be and Why? We have a good chat at work about this and many guys who not make there mind up.
  19. The store big problem is they don't have Security Guard all the time or when they got security guard, they are at main door watching cameras, Now system alerts Duty Manager & Security Guards. ( They have 1 part time officer) My personal view was they wanted everything but not willing to pay for the staff.
  20. We may well be, I work for a Scottish firm so most likely.
  21. We do install a lot in new builds but not often via house builder expect one house builder does get commission if they get they can get home owner to get alarm fitted which I think works well however our sales team go and target the new homes after a few weeks of people moving in. Which most people do welcome alarm just to feel safer as if you talk about all there new gadgets and how you don't really know your neighbours and how burglar more likely to rob a house without alarm. Yea most people do expect Wireless Alarms and I understand that with a new house but again most new houses you can't paint or put much on wall as you need allow the house to settle. Adding Circuits - We are like other poster, We get our sparks to come in add a circuit and try get any extra jobs while at it from customer but i unsure what actual rule is as I know company policy is I am not allowed to touch electrics on any property and I must call our sparks however our sparks work for same company so I think its just insurance but I can image it be law as you don't want 'Dodgy Alarm Fitter who thinks he knows what he doing and burns down a house'
  22. Like they looked good quality built compared other systems and I thought it was cool you can manage alarm and cctv from one app. Good to know you had hardly any faults which is key to any Engineer. Pricing wise, How do they fare against others? What does your customers think about it?
