  1. Steinel, not cheap though, not cheap at all...
  2. 3. is true but its the old 'could get hit by a bus tomorrow' argument isn't it? I've never had an update on a panel result in an unusable panel - yet. If I did it would just as much a PIA if updated manually or automated though. I would worry that, if automated, manufacturers might be tempted to produce a much higher volume of less well tested releases though.
  3. The only thing I ever managed to truly brick doing an update was a Parrot bluetooth kit over RS232 (Funniest ever BT update method has to go to Blaupunkt - some models you had to create an MP3 CD with a specific file name, which then played a Spectrum style audio encoded update! Nope it couldn't directly load data...)
  4. I think I must have very different customers to most! 'We just want something that's easy to use' is all I ever hear! (No Somerset jokes please...)
  5. Is that @ me James? If so, no! TBH with the iOn it was just messing as no room in the case anyway (to also close the lid) Again I assumed harmonics as so close to the main GPRS module? Good to hear rather than 'we support Webway GPRS but not within 30m of the box'!
  6. Soz Arf soliciting is always illegal Be interesting to see if the GPRS interferes with the Texe wireless though? I did bench trials with the iOn yonks back and it did NOT like the Webway being in the same case.... (permanent Supervision fault) I did a double take at the 1.2AH battery but then remembered its a wireless panel, and, assuming contacts only on the 4 wired (or my fave IR120s taking 9mA) coupled with a fresh board design, assume that would actually last quite a while? Haven't looked at the panel quiescent yet. Also I assume were still talking fullsize board and with the mini it would be slightly more happy days?
  7. Yeah like a sad t**t I took copious pics of an R8 box I took out last week before doing my usual ebay-for-charity disposal. Kind of saw nothing was fitting without a lot of Prosol hotknife action....
  8. I would rather visit a site and update than risk a Fail to Alarm claim, insured or not (fyi I am!) Can't wait to try mine. But being 'good' and finishing demo wall and Axis/Webway IP imaging demo box first. Besides which having to wait a couple of weeks for my android pad. I'm assuming being a basic panel and essentially new the 12 will have a few updates to begin with then not so many. A pure guess I know.
  9. @AP Agreed easy for me to site here and say that as I don't use Texe (atm) Rather that than be hit by a big legal bill for FTA. And not all updates are required.
  10. I'd rather be told about problems than people pretend they don't exist, which is how most operate.
  11. Well, I did this job today swapping out for an LCD based panel. The two detectors in the initial picture... Wait for it, wired in PARALLEL?!!??!! Or as the job sheet which I found (but sadly haven't got) stuffed on top of the cabinet said 'wire garage in parell' Twisted wires to connect speaker in trunking - no insulation Taped up twisted wire joints in loft Somehow ran out of wires for SAB so joined Strobe to Siren!! (Lets not forget even old panel was PD 2010) Front door contact was Grade 1 without tamper. All from an NSI gold sold as Grade 2X. (Not a cash job or homer). Class and a half.
  12. I was going to say, if its not intruder - well, perhaps especially if its not intruder... Whilst I'm here does anyone want to comment on my RA and SDPs? demo SDP.pdf demo RA.pdf
  13. At the end of the day its a new set of directors I suppose - wouldn't they (SSAIB) be on dodgy ground legally? Same staff on tools, same office, and same phone number, and a strangely familiar logo though.... (the logo on the bells is nothing like anything on the website. The S is about 200pts and rotated so it could almost be a 2....)
  14. Yeah I know the whole concept of 'confirmed' is irrelevant with bells..... Bet you its wired in series.
  15. Really you're allowed motion detectors in series.... Although I suppose I can't think where it says not to I suppose? Would you do it? Householder says done like that from new BTW.
  16. Yeah I have seen it in shops etc... This was 2012 though. The panel is just about still in warranty probably!
  17. In the last dying gasps of this Ex-WSM Gold (hmmm... who could that be??) they did this bells only as a G2X. Full paperwork not a homer or cash job etc... To be honest I'm now (possibly) changing the panel just over a year later so haven't thoroughly investigated this little setup; as its going to be changed for a DT and, hey, might just put a contact on at least one of the 2 external doors to the area. It's either wired as a 2 zones to get a confirm, or wouldn't be at all surprised if wired in series to cut down on FAs.... Remember the same brains behind it are still trading..... If we get the job I'll let you know how it was wired.
  18. OCS round here, honest, they even kept the stickers and reports the same on the ones I took over, changed only the logo... Again, unless this was only the domestics... But can't see OCS only wanting that kind of work?
  19. Well, good thing is it doesn't seem to be wanting an engineer code then. Or seems worried about lack of mains. So maybe not worth bothering with? Sorry I can't help any more.
  20. Definately same logo as on that panel. Yellow wedge box with green lens?
  21. They had a big office in Bristol too, went past it every day on the way to college. Believe they bought out City then went TU and got gobbled up by OCS? Amazing how many City boxes you'll still see in Bristol though. Stainless so they'll be around for a few years to come. I've replaced a few. All were old bells only 9448s, the classic 3 zone version. I'm guessing someone came along and bought out OCS as all their boxes look really shonky?
