    Good morning,

I have installed the system myself with 6 x radio pir, door contact for entry, radio ext sounder, radio two way keypad, Wi-Fi unit.
Steep learning curve but all working great with proximity tags. i would like to install an addition radio two way keypad. I can get
it to function on the same bus as the 1st but would like it to be separate so that if there is a fault or low battery i know what unts is at fault.
I have installed a base station for the keypad and it stated i can have 4No keypad off this unit? or do i need to install a base station for each keypad?
if not how do i set the radio frequency and that on the 2nd keypad so they are on the same and different to the 1st keypad. then how to configure?
    appreciate your time.

    Radio frequency is fixed

Usually the two way device can be interrogated when low bats and faults regardless

Hi. My new phone line is voip so my visonic can't call me if it goes off. I found a gsm module on ebay, but the seller says that as my alarm is v.old, adding the module could damage the unit due to the power down.

I asked an installer too and he just say "at your own risk"

1/ Is there much risk of damaging the whole setup?

2/ Is there a gizmo out there which can connect to the visonic phoneline output and turn it into gsm?

    Thanks

Can't you just get a new control panel? I thought the detectors were all compatible?

    Good afternoon all,

The short question is what do people think of the Hikvision AX?

The background goes like this: I had 7 years as a UK installer (but over 10 years ago so things have moved on considerably). I've been asked to install a  domestic intruder alarm for a friend in South Africa (I'm living there now). He didn't put cables in during the build so I'm having to go with a wireless alarm. I'd have gone for Visonic Powermax but it would need importing.

There are quite a lot of Paradox Magellan panels in SA - I've had dealings with a few - they chew batteries and are unreliable. Ajax is an option but I've have no experience of them.

I've fitted Hikvision domestic and recently a bigger CCTV system - the app is appalling. I've had to root my own phone (and embarrassingly customers') just to install older versions of the Hik-Connnect App so they can use remote viewing.

So...am I going to have the same issues with a Hikvision alarm? Does it use the Hik Connect app because if that doesn't work with the alarms in the same way as the CCTV, I'm not touching it. Would be a shame because the alarm looks great and has the hybrid camera/PIR detectors.

    Advice and opinions appreciated.

    Cheers!

As your doing it you may as well go Ajax

I've been to loads of post burglary jobs in the last 30 odd years and regardless of the polycarb box theyre easily smashed off the wall with whatever tools they used to break in, some were then for some unfathomable reason put in the sink with the taps turned on

Others they just opened the lid and cut the SW- for the bell, which is generally just 2 screws

So as theyre already easy to smash or pull off the wall by Neanderthals and are even easier for someone with a bit of knowledge to silence without even needing to damage them at all having a few extra 4mm holes that match up to existing panels really isnt a big deal at all. It would make replacing a faulty panel or upgrading an old one MUCH easier if it had pre matched holes for common makes like the veritas R8 for example, would save time and have literally no real downside as I doubt even a couple of extra 4mm holes in panels that already have wiring access holes that are several inches square is a big deal, and to quell the doom and gloom brigade that think they might just fall off the wall if looked at then the plastic not used by adding the holes could be relocated to make reinforced shoulders around each hole when the injection moulding pattern is made

By the time somebody has gained access to the panel it doesnt really make any difference if it has more holes less holes or is polycarb or plastic, it WILL take practically the same amount of time to smash it off the wall or undo the cover screws regardless

Good system will signal before it comes off wall ,

    Your to emotional lol

A panel that can be mounted any way up.

Rs the domestic market. No proper manufacturer is that interested because that market wants to pay 20 quid for a panel. Where focus should shift imo is home automation and desirable looking keypads

Why mqtt isn't standard I'll never kbow

It's not like software isn't achievable, perhaps these manufacturers are tied up with other parent company products so avoid certain things

Or just don't want to move forward due to cost of development

Bit like rcbos taking years to becoming a standard but it is coming eventually, sorry I know it's a bit different but some things don't make sense

signalling via the intruder alarm dualcom don't comply regardless on how it wired

I'd rip the controls out but its 14 wireless devices + a wireless pa(s)

If it comes with an engineer I'll retain it, other wise I put a new wired alarm in?

So basically it's load of nonsense to do it that way just put a terminals block in solder if you have to or something, stupid fire cables running through panels makes nonsense

Unless there's another good reason for it?

The other thing I would do to be honest that I am amazed nobody seems to have thought of is to plaster the back with holes, so that the panel is a DIRECT drop in replacement for as many panels as possible without the need to drill ANY holes, which I think would be a big selling point for installers

And none of this single terminal nonsense, where a +12 or 0v is shared between multiple things like a speaker and where every zone has two terminals, not the Z1/COM/Z2 arrangement, and make all terminals the 45 degree angled ones so you can clearly see the hole when inserting wires

    Galaxy

    Telecom

    Hkc

You can drill cut holes whatever you want I don't see the big deal and all have seperate terminals for power

Why you want to stick with pyronix then ?

  8. 1 hour ago, Ubermik said:

Lol, to be fair the 128 is the panel I have been wanting SOMEONE to pull their head out of their **** and release for a decade or so

All somebody needed to do was make a polycarb panel with a remote keypad, 8 wired and 8 wireless (both expandable) with built in wifi and an app for a reasonable price and I think they would have cleaned up the residential market (EVEN if it was ADE lol)

Whilst the new pyronix panel which I think is due to be released next year "kind" of ticks all the boxes companies like Pyronix seem to ignore the residential market and either bring out underwhelming trash or make anything decent grade 2 and more expensive than a lot of people want to pay, even though theres probably 30 or 40 domestic alarms installed for every 1 business system

Considering they sell the Euro46S for around £100 ex vat including the keypad and with metal box I am sure they could have managed to make a polycarb panel, with an LCD keypad, 8 wired, 8 wireless and wifi for the same price and still make a healthy profit, but my suspicion is that it will be more like £150 - £170 plus vat to be in line with the cost of a euro + digilan or wifi XA

Gotta be honest though, I am extremely impressed with the X 280, the zone and device scans work flawlessly, and although the web configuration environment is slightly awkward its still really good and should improve over time

Plus it has a LOT of LEDs on the mainboard which is always a good thing, just take the lid off and you dont need to bother with Christmas lights ?

Whats been your beef with the new 280 if you dont mind me asking in case I come across any of the same issues?

Ignore residential market? Enforcer is what they went with...

This is all very helpful, thank you for the detailed responses.

I am shocked by the price, by contrast I live in a 5 bedroom house and pay Chubb £90 a year, so I do think they are overcharging.

I was unaware I could cancel and get someone else to basically root the system and start again without the current engineers code. I will take that route, thanks again for the responses - a very impressive forum!!

Depends what your paying for at £90 a year , ultimately seeing both contracts in the flesh would make things clear? You can remove your details of course ....

I wonder if some companies choose this brand as its cheaper and will generate revenue in time. Be a terrible product for those that usually offer a comprehensive main / support contract

It's not that cheap, better pay slightly more right?

My mother-in-law who is 83 and lives in a semidetached two bedroomed house with one living room and the kitchen has recently had her bill by ADT raised to £290 plus VAT a year.

The alarm is a Veritas 8 and it wasn’t installed by ADT. However, now that my mother-in-law wants to leave her contract, ADT are refusing to give her the engineers code and therefore we are unable to get another company to come and service the alarm at a cheaper amount. Can they do this?

I am extremely disappointed by their service, but keep getting fobbed off. Surely the alarm is her property and they should hand over the code?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Your missing something

Adt normally quote you to come and do that , and you probably don't want to pay that right?

You don't have much choice on the matter

Dont mention te words Risco when you call

Search here using your postcode https://www.nsi.org.uk/company-finder/

You know they still won't attend unless call out paid for in advance ???

and they turn up and say sorry we can't deal with it

The stuff seems to work from new as so much of it still goes in, but after that I think most subs stop paying for repairs and it makes things worse

Risco alarm, hardwired originally with light system 2 control panel wireless added.  Changed main battery, turned everything off when took battery out, so now control panel off how do we reset it? Having trouble getting an engineer no-one getting back to us.

Replace it with another model , to risky to touch risco

Well obviously the people who programmed it up in the first place, and now holding the installer code on my property to ransom…

if the wirings not changed, its not obvious in the install manual how to code particular wired connections on or off or otherwise.  Or is this black magic not documented…

Dude easily solved remove the sounder wires

Add a speaker to the speaker terminals and it will give you something similar for now

Only thing I am a bit confused about is how I wire the siren and strobe to be independently powered from an external 12 volt source? See the photo below, if I provide an external 12 volts for the strobe and the siren where does the power go in to the RIO?

What particular bell and strobe are using ?
