  1. Happy new year to you all. Not sure if anyone has come across this before but basically, we have a client moving into a builing where the landlord uses Paxton P38 readers with Paxton encoded HITAG2 access cards. Our client uses MIFARE and would like the ability to have a single card. I know that HID manufacture a multi-format card with iClass + HITAG2 but obviously that's not encoded to Paxton's format. Any ideas / solutions we could consider? Thanks.
  2. We are planning to spray some Axis domes into a black colour. I actually thought they weren't sprayed but powdercoated somehow. Is it as simple as prepping and spraying? oh yes i remember seeing those..hehe. Genius!! Thing is i need RAL9005 - how do you spray that?
  3. Hi Everyone, Our client has asked us to spray the cameras / brackets we are installing a certain colour. Does anyone know of a firm that can do this? We have spoken to the manufacturer who confirms it won't void the warranty but i'm not sure if these items can be powder coated or sprayed so any help would be useful. Thanks.
  4. You can get sample specs from the NSI website. They are a bit wordy but do the job.
  5. Hi Marx, Not sure if you had any replies but we are looking for someone with intruder experience for a client of ours who have just acquired a company in Dundee. If anyone is interested in an introduction, please let me know. They will also require access control and IP CCTV. Thanks, Jason
  6. Sorry to be boring and bring this back to topic..but I've got 24 hours to get things right and so would like your thoughts on site documentation. I know there is a requirement to have the site logs next to the panel. I even know what it's there for. However, it's quite old fashioned and so rather than keeping handwritten notes that are only left on site, we are starting use a tablet based system that keeps a record on electronic file for anyone visiting site. Also a copy is sent to the client electronically after each visit. Does anyone know if this will be acceptable? Also, not all of our clients take on a service or maintenance contract - so does this mean they don't need a service log book as we only respond to reactive call-outs?
  7. The only payment I am not sure about is the need to certificate ALL installations, whether the Client needs / wants it or not. I don't see why every system needs to be certificated. Although we wear the cost of it, eventually the Client pays - whether they need it or not. Doesn't sound right to me, so if someone could clarify, that would be great.
  8. hehe...I say we all go on STRIKE for lower fees, less time and better lunches (if we get time to eat it of course!) I know exactly what you mean charlie6 - I definitely have better things to do - but some of our Clients are asking and some of the specifiers we work with are begging us to get accredited so they can invite us in on projects. We're our own fools if we don't give this some attention. Worse case, we might learn something too! ps. I have to respect them for rejecting us last time - good to know they don't let everyone through the door!
  9. Yes this is our 1st inspection. We did submit the application form years ago but it was rejected due to shaky balance sheet - but that was because we were still starting up and reinvesting all the cash into growing the business. There was no inspection at that time. Thanks for the tips though. I am told that the inspector we have is quite a stickler - but I too am seeing that it is a good thing, as it will help us get things right. Still, it's like a bit like, dare I say it...."Bake Off!" - just don't want to get voted off..hehe
  10. Thanks Timmo66, I still find the hardest thing at the moment is to get everyone to do their little bit. We had a service call the other night and we only realised that the installing engineer had not written down a zone list (or more likely that it wasn't saved to the right folder). Silly little things like that! Plus I find it difficult for everyone to know all the regulations / standards - surely we can't expect our Engineers to have read it all - or can we?
  11. Starting to get the "sweats" ahead of our inspection next week. Is it just me but I find it a little strange that we are being inspected on something where no real prior knowledge exists. We make the assumption that our forms are correct and our procedures are solid but we won't know until we get inspected. Surely it would be more helpful to use the first visit as guidance and then carry out "inspections" to demonstrate our adherence to the guidance? Anyway, does anyone have any good tips in how we can prepare for our first audit? It would be good to know what to expect and also things that caught you by surprise. Thanks.
  12. Hi again, We have quite a few projects over the next month in Central London. If there are any sub-contractors that are free to help and would like the certainty to be booked out for a whole month (with flexibility built in if you require it), please PM me. We are looking for at least 2 teams that would be free to help for the next 4-8 weeks. Many thanks
  13. We have found 2N to be quite good for this application. http://www.2n.cz/en/products/intercom-systems/ip-intercoms/helios-ip-verso/ Alternatively Comelit have a product as well that links in with WIFI.
  14. We've ply'ed the vans already. What do you mean by built racking? Came across this site .... https://config.bottsmartvan.co.uk/vehicle
  15. Hi Everyone, Just wondering if you could help settle a debate we are having about racking within the vans. The racking to be used for storage of parts / general spares e.g. buttons, locks etc The vans currently seem so disorganised with bits and bobs in boxes. Fair to say that we don't have standard parts like BT would but still it seems to be highly inefficient to be searching through various cardboard boxes for the odd bit. Of course the downside is that they take up space so you may not be able to maximises the space. How do you stay organised and what works for you? Any suggestions welcome.
  16. Thanks everyone. Great advice, particularly about the AC. And you are right that the Samsung Bullets come AC/DC so that's good news. I'll be sure never to use CCA in future and just stick to good old fashioned copper. So can anyone answer my question about the correct use of the pairs for power? This is what is in place currently: - 1 pair for +ve DC - 2 pair for -ve DC I have since been told that this may be better: - 2 pair for +ve DC - 1 pair for -ve DC I would have thought that you would split all cables evenly: - 1.5 pair for +ve DC - 1.5 pair for -ve DC Can anyone explain why one option might be better than the others? (I'm getting a lot of "this is how we do it, but don't know why it works" - so wouldn't mind a little more explanation. Thanks
  17. Just plugged in the numbers into a voltage drop calculator. The difference in resistance values between CCA and Copper are significant, but it also shows very similiar levels of voltage drop, so you're probably right about using CAT-5 over this distance for power. Putting this down to 1st time rookie specification mistake. We'll try AC tomorrow.
  18. Hi Everyone, Would be great to get your thoughts on this one..... We are currently using CAT-5 (CCA) to supply some analogue cameras with baluns. The original PSU specified for the project is the Vista 12VDC 4x1A The longest cable run is 60m but we are having issues on much shorter runs. Cameras being used are Samsung Bullets w/ IR LEDs that draw 790mA max. current. During testing today, we were only getting 9V at the camera end / 12.2V leaving the power supply. At the moment the cabling has been configured: - 1 pair for video - 1 pair for +ve DC - 2 pair for -ve DC Our Engineer on site doesn't think splitting one of the -ve pairs to use for positive and negative will make any difference at the camera end. Can anyone explain why? I'm not a sparky so don't really understand the physics of it, but naturally would have thought more cores would supply more power. ps. we are changing the PSU's anyway but still want to optimise the power to the cameras.
  19. We have a small project in Geneva so was wondering if anyone could recommend an installer / engineer out there? Project involves installing a door entry system (currently Paxton access control used) - not sure which system to use yet but it could be Paxton / Videx / BPT (audio/video). They also wanted a panic alarm installing as well. Many thanks.
  20. Out of interest, has anyone ever used the ANPR feature within Paxton Net2?
  21. Poem for a Project Manager Up until now, you were not needed in our life, As we’ve functioned quite nicely and have never been in strife. Each project we started was handled with care, By our dedicated Team of Engineers, always out there. Now as we are growing faster than ever, It’s time we brought you on, better late than never! We need your skills to coordinate, manage and lead, So all our Operations Team can breathe a sigh of relief. Ultimately we just want our Clients to be our biggest RAVING FANS, And since you believe in the same thing, you are welcome to join our clan. We are different to most out there, just so you know, Which means, you are the Master (or Mistress) of your destiny, and together we will grow. If you think you have what it takes to be considered for this special calling, Just PM me your details, to get the ball rolling.
  22. Hi Everyone, We have been working very hard in December and that has led to us being successful with a number of projects that all seem to require us installing throughout the February & March. They are all really nice Clients and because we want to do our best to meet their needs, we are looking for a few exceptional Engineers to help out. The specialty areas of expertise required (and the brands we will be working with) include: Access Control: Paxton, PAC, Grosvenor – Janus / Sateon, Inner Range, PACOM CCTV: Pelco, Samsung Intruder Alarm: Honeywell, Texecom, Scantronic Door Entry / Intercom: Videx, Siedle, BPT We are looking for help from skilled data-cablers (1st fix) to mounting equipment and terminating devices (2nd fix). If you can commission systems, that's even better but don't let it worry you if you don't know how. (we could even show you...) Ideally you have at least got a CSCS card, hand-tools, safety boots – we’ll provide the rest (of course if you have more then you go to the top of the Class!) Hopefully you are available, but if not and you know of someone great, then please do them a favour and let them know we are looking, I’m sure they’ll be very grateful
  23. If they VNC in, does each tenant have their own individual login so that they can't edit all other tenant's vehicles?
  24. Thanks for all the solutions / suggestions. Videofit are currently working on a system that enables remote web-portal. Other than that, everything else fits the bill. Thanks again Breff
