Has anyone experianced problems with the focus on Dennard 2050 and similar models, where the camera will work fine for a few hours or days, and then the focus will get permanantly stuck in the near or too-far position, you can still move the focus, but only from out of focus to really out of focus.

I've seen this on a 2050 that used the Sony FCB-IX470P, had to send it back and have a new cam block fitted to it, the new cam block was of the FCB-EX480P variety.

Sony states that the ZoomFocus initialize command should be sent every 24 hours to the camera block if the camera is being used continuously. The 2050's are not programmed to send this command so maybe that adds to the problem.

As some of you may know I use this 2050 along the seafront in a webcam application, (link below) - I've programmed my control software to send this ZoomFocus init command to the camera block, so we'll see how long it lasts...

We've had the same problem. Dennard called it a 'sticky lens'. They said that if the camera is doing a continous tour the lens needs to be 'exercised' i.e. zooming fully in and out as part of the tour. Tried that - didn't work, had to have a new camera module fitted. Still got the old camera module if anyone knows how to cure the problem!

I don't suppose there's any chance I could cheaply buy the faulty camera block off of you ? I don't have a cure but I'd like to use it normally and see what happens, and then use it with the ZoomFocus Init command being sent every 24 hours and see what happens then.

Any ideas what the part code for the block cam is ?

I've got £10 beer money for you

Cool if you stumble upon a surplus block cam, I'm still after one, fairly cheaply though, thanks :D
