Gardtec security panel stopped working [help request]

Recommended Posts

Hi, thanks in advance for any help you can offer

I recently moved into my new house, with a working Gardtec alarm system.

Last week the alarm went off during a powercut and we typed in the code to stop it. The screen went blank and now doesn't work at all.

It looks like it still has power, because the green light is on (see photos).

I'm not sure what Gardtec we have but I hope the panel photos help identify it.

Any ideas on how to fix or do I need to replace?

The keypad is a gardtec contour keypad (LED)

The panel could be a 500 series (501 / 593) hard to tell without seeing the endstation

It sounds like you have an issue with the control panel back up battery and this may of caused an NVM issue (loosing the system codes / parameters)

When was the last time the system was serviced?

Thanks for your response. I wouldn't know actually, the previous owners seemed like the type not to bother with things like that.

Sounds like a service is in order.

Sorry to ask such a newbie question but how do I find a good reputable service engineer? I'm based in Essex

Hi FuzzyDunlop,

Finding a reputable service engineer may take a bit of time. Your best option would be to get a couple of quotes from a few, find out who is offering all of the basics you need to be covered for. There are 2 main types of services;

1. Service only - Much like an MOT on your car, you will only get a once over the check everything on the system is working at that time.

2. Maintained - Covered for one service per year, call out charges are covered for (24 hours around the clock, 365 days a year, or as close to), parts coverage for any faulty parts and no excess labour charges.

I would gather a few, make up a comparison and choose from there. But be weary and look into contract lengths and T&C's aswell.

Thanks

It could be maintained without parts or labour included.

You should inquire what's included when your pricing up.

Looking at approved companies (NSI SSAIB) or recommendations would be a starting point.

"maintained" was the term used in BS4737 to describe a service contract...

the terms of each contract are different at different co's
