What Cable To Use - Long Run

Hey there people, just wondering if i wanted to put a camera on the back building of the house, distance from or to DVR is probably 50-55 meters max, would rg-59 cable be fine or would cat 5 with bnc baluns be better??

cat 5 is better you can use powered baluns if you lose signal

50 meters is nothing for RG59.

cat 5 is still better you can put two or three cameras on the end if you need to

:lol: I agree from an installers POV, we use CAT5 on 90% of installs, but only due to the cost savings and ease of installation.

If he changes his mind after he's run the coax he's stuffed, is he stuffed after running the cat 5? I dont think so chck mate! not only that the picture is much better on twisted pair

for that length of run go for whatever cable you can get the cheapest.

If i use the cat 5, i can use 1 pair for video and 1 pair for power, so think that'll be better.


Or is it better to keep the power and video on a seperate cable?

hi. yes 1 pair for video with balun. but for power i would use 2 pair i.e brown/brownwhite= + blue/bluewhite= -
