Vmware Server

Help required

We run SBS2011 via a Netgear FVS336GV2

Router is set to 192.168.0.1

SBS is set to 192.168.0.2 : Subnet 255.255.255.0

SBS is DHCP server for network

I am now setting up a VMware Sphere virtual server and have done a clean install of SBS 2011 on it

I want to get the new server up and running, ready to switch over after I have tested it and am happy with it

With SBS2011 you cannot have two dhcp servers on the same network so I was going to set up a secondary lan ip on the router of 10.0.0.1 and give the new SBS an address of 10.0.0.2 with a subnet of 255.0.0.0

I have put equipment accidently on the network in the past that had dhcp switched on and caused absolute chaos hence my question before I try it

Would it work or would I finish up with two dhcp servers clashing with each other, or is their another way?

What are my options, I am not that network savvy

Dm Eco4: Defaulting Hard Drive?

Guys,

Got hold of an Eco4 as part of an upgrade. Needs a new fan (which dont cost much) but I was hoping to knock it on afterwards.

I obviously dont want to sell it with a hard drive full of images. Is there a way of defaulting the hard drive from the DVR? I have done a reset from the menus but that only seems to default programming.

Just spoken to youngest son. Sergeant in ACF. (16 yrs old)

Told him if he is attacked he is to use maximum force and training.

He told me this.

"Orders from defence minister and our sector commandant, no cadet is to attend their respective detachments wearing any number dress uniform or parts there of."

"That is the rule for London, unsure about the rest of the country" (Him speaking).

Then, " Yesterday at cadets the order wasn't received until almost all the cadets were at the unit.

The instructors had to contact all parents and asked them to pick their cadets up with a set of civvy clothing.

And the unit was shut down for the night "

So this is what has become of our country?

Our Army/Cadets have been told not to wear OUR uniform. And they close down the TA/ACF Unit for the night.

A simple trick i use

so you have global tampers, keeps triggering, these days rare for lace wiring etc. so unless cable damage its likely going o be a lid contact.

1st record each individual s/p loop resistance, look for any obviously high or greatly different resistances, now stick the pair in series with the sab hold off

you can now hear exactly when and if the loop is affected as tamper contacts 'pop' when you lift lids, and know when they remake, and not cluttered by your meter, you have both hands free.

now re-check the loops and look for any changes against earlier measurements.

if you have an open loop but unmarked cables and zones, connect the open pair between negative and bell ring, once you close the loop the siren will sound.

My dilema is whether to put my own signwritting on it.

A dummy without power is one thing, but to imitate a working alarm makes me think a little more about it.

Opinions please and examples of common practices

Thanks

I tried it but when I add the tag to the second system it doesn't work on the first system.

I thought that the tag would give out an ID which would be accepted by the system if programmed, but it seems that the tag is written by the system.

Do any of you guys actually use this type of thing ? If so, is anyone willing to share and mail me a copy over.

Galaxy Flex 20, Strange Error/warning

Hi
I have a flex 20 panel with a strange error. (Not sure what it is).

Panel is bought and installed by me, I don´t have a service contract. I´m using RF units only.

It has been working perfectly until now (or stil is except the error).

My main door with a magnetic contact (DO800M) is programmed as Part-Final zone.

When I set the system (full or part doesn´t matter) the panel displays 1021 Entré (which is my main door)
Whith the choices [esc] to cancel and [enter] to override.

If I override the system sets and everything is fine. I´ve triggered the system via the main door and it works.

Nothing shows up in the log and the magnetic contact seems to work.

Any idéa why I recieve this error (or warning rather...)?

Resetting Inertia Sensors On Scantronic 9800

Hi, I recently moved into a new house with a Scantronic 9800, but no user or engineer code. I had to refresh the NVM so lost all the programming.

I have reprogrammed it, and it works OK but for a problem with a zone with 4 Viper inertia sensors. I can't get them to reset. By which I mean, if whilst the alarm is not set a Viper gets triggered, the comfort LED (as I believe it is known) comes on and stays on, and if I then go to set the alarm I cannot without first doing an engineer reset. If no Viper has been triggered before the alarm is set, all is OK.

So, after a bit of research, I gather from a previous thread on this forum that one of the Viper's 12V terminals should be connected to one of the programmable outputs on the panel, set to 'Shock sensor reset', and was going to try this but discovered that I have a small additional PCB wired in between Output 1 and the Viper 12V +ve, as can be seen in the photo below.

Does anyone know what this does and how it might work? With it in place I tried setting Output 1 to Shock sensor reset, with output state set to both +ve applied and -ve applied, as well as the default Set latch type 1, and none work (with differing symptoms). Should I just get rid of it and wire the Vipers directly to an Output?

How is the LED on a Viper supposed to work, by the way? I imagine it is off normally when the alarm is not set, flashes briefly if triggered, then stops as the Viper is automatically reset. Is that right? I can't find much documentation for all this on the internet.

Any help much appreciated.

Many thanks

Security Of Anti-Codes

Another question about impressions of security.

I'm looking at anti-codes at the moment, which seem common on monitored systems.

Typically this takes a 5 digit quote code along with a secret seed, and generates a 5 digit reset code (along these lines, anyway).

It turns out for the few decoders I have now looked at, the secret seed can be determined from a one or two pairs of quote/reset codes. If this seed was constant across an entire installer or manufacturer, this could present a risk.

What are your thoughts on this?

Ifsec 2013

ill start by saying it seems its a dying show, its been getting smaller and less relevant to me at least. Mostly I go because its local to me (wont be going to London) and to say hello to people.

I did see some interesting stuff though.

Honeywell had the axs with usb attached storage for cctv images without a server.

webway had the 3g stuff with cctv alarms linked to panel data

saw a few home automation bits that interested me and some had higher end bms options.

spent a bit of time in the korea area with a secware interest, fortunately simon was with us as I was out my depth on the language bit.

Bosch had a 'starlight' camera which imo was just any old camera with a long shutter time but marketed well

Siemans wernt there which was a shame as I like a lot of their portfolio but prices arnt realistic

went to the utc stand with matt and was amazed that lenel is a going concern. Didn't get the whole ats thing either. Technically its superb. Would I buy one. No.

Comelit's HA stuff showed promise but fell over cos it uses its own protocol.

Samsungs stand wasn't as impressive as last year. I dunno what they had cos imo they cant make anything well so only walked past.

Discovered Panasonic make fire panels and detectors. Or at least badge but still.

Firex was tiny

So to sum up, imo ifsec is doing a securex. I think the move to London is the final chapter. It started there iirc and moved to the nec due to the size required. It used to be 5 halls again iirc and it was this way 2 and a bit.

I did learn today that ifsec as it is will be going to excel and be in june? I think. But during current ifsec week some 'live' event will be at the nec for 3 days of what we know as ifsec week. I don't know which will work better but id say the nec is a better venue than excel but time will tell.

What did you see if you went at all?

If you did what were your highlights?

Gates

We have had a few issues with a sliding gate that is pretty much in continuous use. It has been installed for nearly 4 years and in that time we have replaced 3 controller boards, 1 x gearbox and now the pinion has failed with 2 teeth stripped from it. My belief is as the current motor (bpt mec unit) doesn't have a soft stop it is stressing the gearbox and drive. This then fails over time.

The unit has a 3 phase 1.5 hp motor.

Rather than keep replacing this stuff as imo it isn't upto the duty expected of it, im thinking of replacing it with something else, ideally with soft start and stop etc.

Suggestions please?

.

Restrictions On Engineer Manuals And Codes

I've had some really good feedback from this forum, rather than the usual "it's like that because it's always been like that" attitude that the other alarm forums seem to have.

So - a fairly simple question - why do manufacturers and installers restrict access to manuals and codes?

I've not yet had an alarm panel that I couldn't get a manual for (though, some of them have required a degree of social engineering). There's no magic bullet to disable these alarms in the manuals. There's more than enough rope for a DIY or inquisitive user to hang themselves, but they'd need a code anyway?

As for codes, surely these are never left as default?
