  1. That is the hub of the problem......I don't have an engineer code so looking like a new panel. I'm guessing when I remove the cover off the current one it's going to be a tad noisy. I guess it's a disconnect at mains and disconnect back up battery to silence it then install the replacement panel and back up battery into it then try and program it. I was wondering that too :-)
  2. Peter, Thank you. I'll have a read of the engineer manual to see if i can find what I'm looking for.
  3. So, on the basis of Al-yeti's reply (thank you) would my best option be to buy the new panel and start from scratch?
  4. Gents, Thank you for your replies. I am fairly competent but have no idea what you mean by a shaved monkey or a house basher? Peter, how do you default the codes in order to deprogram it or is Google my friend?
  5. Thank you for your advice gents, much appreciated. Can you confirm what the service entails? In the past four years I have on an annual basis replaced the CR123A batteries in the six PIR units and the CR2 battery in the old front door contact. I've also been up the ladder and replaced the battery bell. On each occasion the tamper alarm has sounded so I've had to silence it with my user code which i can live with. As you predicted, the companies I contacted have both indicated they will complete a call out to install the new door contact I have purchased but both want me to sign up to an annual maintenance contract. I understand that and why they want to guarantee repeat business for themselves. When asked what was included in the annual visit, both indicated a full test of the system and replacement batteries everywhere. When i advised I was able to do this myself, both indicated they would still replace them anyway as security for themselves that the system was working fine when they left. Now to the hub of things. The quote to install the new door contact and check the rest of the system was £195 with the first company followed by an annual service visit fee of £150. The second company wanted £220 for the first visit plus £135 for the annual check. When asked, both companies stated they would retain the engineer code which I understand. Now, I have also established that I can purchase a brand new panel to replace my existing unit complete with engineer code for £170. As I already have the bell, door contact and six PIR units and can replace the batteries in all of them, would this be a batter option for me? I have two further questions for the experts out there: 1. Having read the engineer installation manual for the Pyronix, it doesn't look easy but it does appear one can do it if you follow the instructions carefully. Could a householder DIY install one? 2. If the answer to 1 above is no, are the prices reasonable for the work being completed/proposed? Thanks in advance.
  6. Thank you for your reply. Any ideas how much a call out should cost?
  7. Good evening, I have a Pyronix enforcer alarm at home with the MC2-WE door contact attached to my front door. I had the door door replaced last week and when removing the door the contractor accidentally damaged the sensor. I have ordered a replacement off the internet but cannot seem to find any menu in the master manager area to allow me to search for and pair a new contact. Is this option only available from the engineering menu? If so, is there any way of accessing it or am I looking at a complete new panel and starting from scratch. The company that fitted the alarm in 2012 has sadly gone out of business so I can't contact them. Any advice would be gratefully received.
  8. I have just found the manufacturer and model of the PIR sensors on a website and it is a Pyronix Enforcer KX12DQ-WE Digital Quad Wireless PIR. The keyfob to remotely arm and disarm the alarm is also Pyronix and is the KF4-WE two way key fob. Still can't find the control panel but guessing it must be a Pyronix and probably a predecessor to the Enforcer 32 model.
  9. Thank you for your replies. I don't know the name of the manufacturer or model as there is nothing stamped on it. Similarly there is nothing in the user instruction manual to indicate the model or manufacturer. Having done quick a Google search it looks identical in appearance to the Pyronix Enforcer 32 model apart from mine has a drop down panel to cover the buttons and no Pyronix label on it. I don't have the installer details but having looked at the bell box outside it would appear to be a local firm that has disappeared off Google so am assuming they have closed down or gone bust. I'll take your advice and get someone out to service it all. Do you happen to know anybody in the Leicestershire area or am I as well just picking someone out of the yellow pages.?
  10. Good afternoon, The wireless alarm system in the house I bought has worked fine up until about five weeks ago, It consists of the control box, a front door sensor, 6 PIR detectors and a wireless bell box. I am now receiving a warning stating 'low wireless battery' on the display panel. Having walked round the house, all of the PIR detectors light up when I walk in front of them so I'm guessing it might be the battery in the bell box. Can I just put a ladder up there and take the cover off and put a replacement battery in or will it sense a tamper and set off the internal alarm? What size battery will I need ? Would it also be advisable to replace all of the batteries in the wireless PIR detectors at the same time? if so, what type of battery is required? Finally, I wish to decorate a couple of the rooms in which the PIR detectors are located which means painting behind them. Can I just disconnect the front cover and unscrew them off the wall then put them back in place when I've finished or will they detect a tamper and set the alarm off. Apologies if these are basic and stupid questions but all I've ever done with the alarm so far is set it then unset it. Thanks in advance. Steve.
